Gurriel (calf) had four live at-bats at Arizona's camp facility at Salt River Fields on Tuesday, MLB.com reports. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Gurriel came out of the activity feeling good. The skipper added that Gurriel also did some "aggressive baserunning" and "outfield work." The team is hopeful Gurriel can return during its current road trip. Arizona finishes a series against Colorado on Wednesday before moving on to Milwaukee.

Gurriel (calf) served as the designated hitter in a game at the Diamondbacks' camp Saturday, MLB.com reports. Gurriel got four at-bats but did not run the bases. The outfielder, who exited a game Sept. 1 with tightness in his left calf, is expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks and return from the injured list later this week.

Gurriel (calf) has hit off a Trajekt pitching machine and is scheduled to begin running Thursday, MLB.com reports. Gurriel was placed on the 10-day injured list last week, retroactive to Sept. 2. At that time, both he and manager Torey Lovullo expressed optimism that the outfielder would return after missing the minimum amount of time.

The Diamondbacks placed Gurriel on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left calf strain, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. Gurriel missed Monday's game after injuring his calf Sunday, and he's now set to miss at least the next 10 days after being diagnosed with a strain. Pavin Smith started in Gurriel's place Monday and may continue to do so while the 30-year-old is sidelined. Meanwhile, Christian Walker (oblique) will return from the IL to fill the open roster spot.
