• Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Not expected to play first base

  Padres manager Mike Shildt said Tuesday that Cronenworth playing first base this season is not currently "on the radar," Sammy Levitt of 97.3 The Fan reports. Cronenworth split time pretty evenly between first and second base last year, logging 80 starts at first and 66 at the keystone. However, the Padres are planning to deploy Luis Arraez on a near-everyday basis at first base in 2025 while allowing Cronenworth to settle in at second. That won't affect Cronenworth's eligibility in most fantasy formats this year, but if things go as planned, it's reasonable for those in dynasty and keeper leagues to anticipate him losing first-base eligibility in 2026. Despite the narrowing of where he'll play in the field, Cronenworth is expected to continue to be an everyday player for the Padres this season after slashing .241/.324/.390 with 17 homers, 83 RBI, 72 runs and five stolen bases over 653 plate appearances last year.

  Cronenworth went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers. Cronenworth powered the San Diego offense with a two-run blast in the second inning and an RBI double in the fourth. He's now got two multi-hit efforts over his last four games and his home run was his first of the month. It's been a struggle overall in September for Cronenworth, who's now slashing just .206/.342/.286 with three extra-base hits, three RBI, five runs, a steal and a 13:14 BB:K in 77 plate appearances this month.

  Cronenworth went 3-for-3 with a walk in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the White Sox. Cronenworth entered Friday hitting just .163 (8-for-49) with 11 walks over 15 games in September. He hit eighth Friday, the lowest he's been in the lineup all year, and it appears to have jump-started his bat. The infielder now has a .246/.327/.392 slash line with 16 home runs, 78 RBI, 71 runs scored and five stolen bases over 148 contests. He's seen more time at second base lately with Xander Bogaerts moving over to shortstop in the absence of Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder).

  Cronenworth went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and a double in Saturday's 11-4 loss to the Rays. Cronenworth opened the scoring with a two-run blast in the first inning and fell a triple shy of the cycle in an otherwise forgettable game for the Padres. He has hit safely in six straight contests and eight of his past 10 overall, driving in five and scoring six runs in that span. On the season, the 30-year-old is hitting .250 with 16 home runs, 78 RBI, 67 runs scored and four stolen bases across 564 plate appearances.
