  Gimenez went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and four RBI in Game 4 of the ALCS on Thursday against the Mariners. Gimenez delivered a pair of big hits, kicking off the scoring with a two-run home run in the third inning. He came through with a two-RBI single five frames later, and he has now driven in six runs in his last two games. Gimenez has posted a .310/.355/.552 OPS across 32 plate appearances this postseason.

Ernie Clement will start at shortstop while Davis Schneider mans second base with lefty Ian Seymour toeing the rubber for Tampa Bay in the regular-season finale. Gimenez is slashing a woeful .172/.229/.234 in September, but he has nonetheless maintained a regular role against right-handed pitching to close out the campaign.

After making starts out of the middle infield in each of the Blue Jays' last eight games, the left-handed-hitting Gimenez will retreat to the bench while the Rays send southpaw Ian Seymour to the bump. Toronto will go with Davis Schneider at second base and Ernie Clement at shortstop Wednesday.

Gimenez has played six innings at shortstop this season, but this will be his first start at the position since 2022. It's possible he could play the position more regularly down the stretch while Bo Bichette (knee) is sidelined. With Gimenez at shortstop, Isiah Kiner-Falefa will be at second base for the Blue Jays on Friday.
