The Mets recalled Acuna from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday. Acuna, who has seen the vast majority of his playing time at second base with the big club this season, is expected to occupy a bench role in September. The 23-year-old righty hitter hit .303 with zero home runs and eight steals in 28 games at Triple-A and has batted .239 with zero home runs and 12 steals in 175 plate appearances with the Mets in 2025.

The Mets recalled Acuna from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of Sunday's game against the Mariners in Williamsport, Pa. New York is designating Acuna as its 27th man for the 2025 MLB Little League Classic, so he'll most likely head back to Syracuse once the contest in Williamsport is completed. Acuna isn't in the lineup for Sunday's contest but will provide the Mets with added depth in the infield.

The Mets optioned Acuna to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. To make room for trade acquisition Cedric Mullins, Acuna was sent packing. The 23-year-old Acuna was hardly playing and should benefit from more consistent at-bats in the minors. Acuna figures to be back up to provide bench depth when rosters expand to 28 players Sept. 1, if not sooner.

Acuna is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Dodgers. Each of Acuna's last four starts have come against left-handed pitching, but he's not in there Friday versus southpaw Clayton Kershaw. He's now been in the lineup just twice across the Mets' last six contests. Brett Baty is handling second base and batting eighth.

Acuna isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Acuna will grab a seat on the bench for the second game in a row after going 3-for-8 during Sunday's doubleheader against St. Louis. Jeff McNeil will get the nod at second base and bat seventh.
