  • Mariners' Ryan Bliss: Returns to Triple-A
    By RotoWire

The Mariners optioned Bliss to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. The 24-year-old was called up by Seattle on Wednesday but will return to the minors due to Julio Rodriguez (ankle) being activated from the injured list. Bliss has played in 33 big-league games this season and has a .687 OPS and 31 percent strikeout rate in 71 plate appearances.

  • Bliss owns a .308 average and .911 OPS with three doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, five walks, seven stolen bases and seven runs over the 59 plate appearances he's logged with Triple-A Tacoma since being optioned July 22. Bliss had his moments during his near-two-month-long big-league stint earlier this season, posting a .220 average and .648 OPS across 67 plate appearances over 31 games. The 24-year-old is still striking out a similarly elevated level with the Rainiers -- he sports a 30.5 percent strikeout rate during his current minor-league tenure and produced a 31.3 percent figure in Seattle -- but as his numbers indicate, Bliss is boasting an extremely well-rounded offensive profile while benefiting from the Pacific Coast League's hitter-friendly conditions. There remains a possibility Bliss gets a September promotion, especially considering his defensive versatility.

  • The Mariners optioned Bliss to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. Bliss received his first MLB call-up May 27 and picked up 16 starts at second base in June, but playing time has been more difficult to come by in recent weeks. After Jorge Polanco returned from the injured list June 24 and took back everyday duties at the keystone, Bliss started just two of the Mariners' ensuing 21 games and went 0-for-10 with six strikeouts over that stretch. He'll get the opportunity to play on a more frequent basis with Tacoma.

  • Bliss is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays. Bliss had started at the keystone in each of the Mariners' last four games, but his playing time will likely fall by the wayside with Seattle bringing back Jorge Polanco (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Monday. Polanco won't be eased back in as a designated hitter Monday and will take back his usual spot in the field at second base.

  • Bliss went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and two RBI in a 9-0 victory versus Miami on Saturday. Bliss plated a run with a fourth-inning single and wrapped up the scoring in the contest with an RBI double in the eighth. It was the second consecutive three-hit game for the infielder after he went 3-for-3 with an RBI on Friday. Prior to the pair of three-hit contests, Bliss had needed 19 at-bats over nine games to collect his previous three base knocks. While he offers some intriguing upside on the basepaths -- Bliss swiped 28 bags in 50 games at Triple-A prior to his late-May call-up and has four thefts in five attempts over 20 contests in the majors -- it's not clear what role he might have with the Mariners when Jorge Polanco (hamstring) returns from the IL.
