• Brewers' Robert Gasser: Set for opener duties

  Gasser is expected to serve as Milwaukee's opening pitcher for Saturday's game against the Reds, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Gasser will be making his second start since being recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Sept. 21, though he's not expected to work deep enough into Saturday's contest to qualify for a win. The left-hander -- who allowed two earned runs on one hit and two walks across three innings last Sunday in St. Louis -- could be in line for a similar workload Saturday before turning the game over to Jacob Misiorowski, who is expected to work in bulk relief.

• Brewers' Robert Gasser: Activated, optioned to Triple-A

  The Brewers reinstated Gasser (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Nashville. Gasser has spent the entire season working his way back from a Tommy John procedure he underwent last June. He's made nine starts in the minors since beginning his rehab assignment in July, posting a 3.28 ERA and 1.26 WHIP through 24.2 innings between three levels. Now fully healthy, the 26-year-old lefty will fall victim to the logjam in Milwaukee's rotation and remain in Triple-A. However, he could still return to the majors during the final month of the year to make a spot start or work out of the bullpen.

• Brewers' Robert Gasser: Completes eighth rehab start

  Gasser (elbow) struck out four batters and allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks across 4.2 innings in a rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Nashville. Gasser has now made eight starts in the minors since beginning his rehab assignment July 19 in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Though pitchers are typically allotted just 30 days of rehab time in the minors while on the injured list, pitchers like Gasser who are returning from Tommy John surgery are eligible for up to three consecutive 10-day extensions, and the Brewers appear to have taken advantage of that rule to give the right-hander some additional ramp-up time. Since shifting his assignment to Nashville on Aug. 8, Gasser has turned in a 1.98 ERA over 13.2 innings in four starts, but his other ratios (1.32 WHIP, 12:6 K:BB) aren't quite as shiny. Milwaukee will likely continue to allow Gasser to work as a starter during his rehab assignment, but if he rejoins the big club over the final five weeks of the season, he would presumably work out of the bullpen, unless injuries test the organization's starting depth.

• Brewers' Robert Gasser: Rehab shifted to Triple-A

  Gasser (elbow) has been sent to Triple-A Nashville to continue his rehab assignment, the Brewers announced Friday. Gasser has made four rehab appearances over the last few weeks, allowing two runs in six innings. He'll continue his assignment at Triple-A, seemingly the last step of his long recovery from Tommy John surgery. Gasser should be reinstated sometime in August, but it's unclear where he'll fit in Milwaukee's talented and deep pitching pool.

• Brewers' Robert Gasser: Rehab start next week

  Gasser (elbow) is on track to begin a rehab assignment with the Brewers' Arizona Complex League affiliate next week, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. That's assuming everything goes well during his live batting practice session later this week. Gasser is coming back from June 2024 Tommy John surgery and could be considered for a role with the big club at some point in August or September.
