The Twins designated Camargo for assignment Tuesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for fellow catcher Jhonny Pereda, whom Minnesota claimed off waivers from the Athletics. Camargo has slashed just .212/.258/.319 with a 38.3 percent strikeout rate this season at Triple-A St. Paul.

The Twins optioned Camargo to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Camargo was never going to make the Opening Day roster as long as both Ryan Jeffers and Christian Vazquez were healthy. He'll provide catching depth at St. Paul.

Camargo was brought up to the big-league club Thursday as a tertiary catching option, but he'll return to Triple-A on Friday. Reliever Kody Funderburk was activated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

The Twins recalled Camargo from Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday. Camargo will give the Twins a third catcher down the stretch. He might not see any action this weekend but his presence allows the club to use Ryan Jeffers at designated hitter, if needed.
