Garcia cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Charlotte, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Garcia was DFA'd on Sunday after accumulating a 7.07 ERA and 1.93 WHIP across 14 innings to begin the season. He'll remain in the White Sox organization, but a return to the 40-man roster will likely depend on his ability to turn things around in the minors.

The White Sox designated Garcia for assignment Sunday. Garcia will cede his spot in the White Sox bullpen and on the 40-man roster to right-hander Brad Keller, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Over his 14 relief appearances for the White Sox this season, Garcia picked up one win and one save, but his ratios (7.07 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB) left much to be desired.

Garcia earned the save in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader versus Kansas City after allowing a hit and a walk over two scoreless innings. Closer Michael Kopech and setup men Jordan Leasure and Steven Wilson all pitched in Wednesday's matinee, and Garcia was called upon for the multi-inning save in Game 2. It's just the second save of Garcia's career, and the scoreless outing brings his ERA down to 7.27 and WHIP to 1.62. The 24-year-old is pitching better of late with four straight scoreless appearances, though he likely has a lot more work to do in order to be in the mix regularly for high-leverage chances.

Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. Garcia has allowed two earned runs with a 17:6 K:BB across nine innings for Charlotte after being claimed off waivers from the Yankees a month ago. The former top prospect has been used almost exclusively in relief in 2023 and will presumably work as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen during his upcoming stint with the White Sox.

The White Sox claimed Garcia off waivers from the Yankees on Thursday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. Garcia didn't figure to make it through waivers once the Yankees designated him for assignment and, sure enough, he gets scooped up by one of the higher waiver priorities. The 24-year-old has seen his star fade since he was a top-100 prospect, but he's a worthwhile reclamation project. Garcia has minor-league options left and presumably will report to Triple-A Charlotte for now.
