Overton (elbow) has given up five earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three over 6.1 innings in two relief appearances for Triple-A Louisville since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday. Overton made three starts at the big-league level for the Reds last season before undergoing Tommy John surgery last May. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on May 14 -- less than a year after his procedure -- before being pulled off the assignment a week later. Overton returned to action in the ACL over the All-Star break, and after eventually moving up to High-A Dayton for a rehab outing July 27, he was cleared to make his 2024 Louisville debut. The right-hander could eventually be an option for Louisville's rotation once he gets more stretched out.

Overton (elbow) is going back out on a rehab assignment at the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The right-hander completed three rehab appearances in May a year after Tommy John surgery, giving up two runs over three total innings in that span. His assignment was paused for undisclosed reasons following a May 21 appearance, so Overton may be close to starting from scratch in terms of building his arm back up.

Overton will undergo right elbow surgery Tuesday after encountering a recent setback, Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The exact nature of the operation isn't clear, but it is expected to end his season. Overton has been sidelined since mid-April with what had been called a right elbow strain. He also missed most of last season with a back injury.

Cincinnati transferred Overton (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Sunday, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports. Overton was removed from the 40-man roster in order to open up a spot for several new additions to the Cincinnati bullpen. The right-hander is not expected to be ready to return from his left elbow strain until the middle of July.
