Fairchild signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Saturday that includes an invitation to spring training. Finger and oblique injuries kept Fairchild on the sidelines for the majority of the 2025 season, and he posted just a .606 OPS over 55 plate appearances with Atlanta when healthy. The 29-year-old outfielder will have a chance to win a job on Cleveland's bench during spring training, but he's likely destined to spend most of the upcoming season at Triple-A Columbus.

Fairchild cleared waivers and elected free agency Thursday. Fairchild will test the open market after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The outfielder appeared in 28 big-league games this season -- all for Atlanta -- and slashed .216/.273/.333 across 55 plate appearances.

The Rays activated Fairchild (oblique) from the 60-day injured list and designated him for assignment Monday. Fairchild missed most of the second half with an oblique strain. While he will be recovered well ahead of spring training, the Rays have elected not to put him back on their 40-man roster. Fairchild is a career .223/.305/.384 hitter across parts of five major-league seasons.

Atlanta activated Fairchild (finger) from the 10-day injured list Monday. Fairchild had been shelved since late May with a dislocated pinky finger but is ready to roll after going 5-for-12 in three rehab contests. He will see occasional playing time in the outfield against left-handed pitching.

Fairchild (finger) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Fairchild went on the 10-day injured list two weeks ago with a dislocated pinky finger but has been cleared to play in rehab games. Since his absence has been brief, the outfielder shouldn't require too many rehab at-bats before being activated.
