  • The Rangers reinstated Latz (forearm) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock. Forearm tightness has kept Latz on the shelf since early August. He gave up five earned runs over one-third of an inning during his first rehab outing Aug. 18, but he's since allowed just two runs across 7.2 frames in the minors. The Rangers will keep him at Triple-A for now, though there's still a chance he rejoins the big squad to help out Texas' bullpen over the final few weeks of the season.

  • Latz (forearm) is set to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Sunday. Latz has been sidelined since Aug. 2 and began throwing off a mound Thursday. He's been used in relatively short stints out of the bullpen, so his rehab assignment shouldn't be particularly lengthy.

  • Latz (forearm) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Thursday will mark the first time Latz has thrown off a mound since he landed on the injured list Sunday with forearm tightness. The Rangers have yet to offer a timeline for the 28-year-old southpaw to come off the IL.

  • Rangers' Jacob Latz: Wins roster spot
    By RotoWire

General manager Chris Young said Wednesday that Latz will be included in the Rangers' Opening Day bullpen, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Latz, Yerry Rodriguez and non-roster invitee Jose Urena ended up claiming the final three spots in the Rangers' Opening Day bullpen. A starting pitcher for most of his minor-league career, the left-handed Latz has made just four appearances for Texas over parts of two seasons in the majors. He's likely to work as a lower-leverage, multi-inning reliever for the Rangers in 2024.

The Rangers optioned Latz to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. In order to make room for Matt Bush, who was selected from Triple-A on Saturday, the Rangers will push Latz off the active roster and back to the minor leagues. The 27-year-old lefty has made three appearances for the Rangers this season and has yet to surrender a run through 6.1 frames.
