  • Josh Rojas: Becomes free agent
    By RotoWire

The White Sox released Rojas on Saturday. Rojas was booted off Chicago's 40-man roster last week and shortly after that was officially cut loose. The versatile Rojas has slashed just .180/.252/.259 in 211 plate appearances this season, but he could get a look from an organization in need of an experienced utility player.

  • The White Sox designated Rojas for assignment Friday. Rojas hasn't logged an at-bat since Aug. 10 as the White Sox have opted to give younger players more action in the final stretch of the regular season. The 31-year-old utility player didn't give the team much of a boost at the plate, slashing .180/.252/.259 with two home runs and four stolen bases in 211 plate appearances. Should he go unclaimed, Rojas will have the option of electing free agency or remaining within the White Sox organization. Korey Lee was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move.

  • Rojas is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners. The White Sox have two openings in the infield after Chase Meidroth (thumb) joined Miguel Vargas (oblique) on the injured list Thursday, but Rojas may not be in line to take on a regular role while the two players are on the shelf. After a stretch of five consecutive starts, the left-handed-hitting Rojas now finds himself on the bench for the second game in a row against a right-handed starting pitcher (Logan Gilbert). Chicago will go with Lenyn Sosa at second base and Brooks Baldwin at third base in the series finale.

  • Rojas isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Seattle. Rojas will get a breather after beginning the month 2-for-12 with a home run and two walks through four games. Brooks Baldwin will start at the hot corner instead and bat ninth.

  • Rojas will start at second base and will bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Angels. He will cover second base Sunday while Chase Meidroth (thumb) is on the bench for the third game in a row, but Rojas could be in store for regular playing time at third base once Meidroth rejoins the lineup. Rojas had started in each of the previous three contests, going 2-for-10 with a solo home run, a double and a walk.
