  Sears (11-13) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over six innings to take the loss Friday versus the Mariners. Sears ended the season with four losses in his last five starts, allowing 17 runs across 29 innings in September. He recorded 13 quality starts in 32 outings this season, including six quality starts since the beginning of August. Sears concludes the campaign with a 4.38 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 137:49 K:BB across a career-high 180.2 innings as the Athletics' top starting pitcher.

• Athletics' JP Sears: Lit up early in loss

  Sears (11-12) took the loss against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over five innings while striking out six. Sears got beat up out of the gate, allowing three consecutive batters to reach in the opening frame, which led to two runs coming across for the Yankees. He then started off the second by surrendering a leadoff homer to Anthony Volpe and was later tagged for a three-run shot in the third. It marked the second straight outing in which Sears has given up multiple home runs, and he's now allowed four or more runs in three of his last four starts. On a positive note, he did manage to get through five innings Saturday for the fifth straight outing.

• Athletics' JP Sears: Pitches well in no-decision

  Sears allowed four hits and two walks while striking out one over six scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Astros on Tuesday. Sears was given the start on short notice after Osvaldo Bido (wrist) landed on the injured list earlier in the day. It worked out well, as Sears turned in his first scoreless outing since July 30, though the Athletics' bullpen couldn't maintain the 2-0 lead Sears exited the game with after six frames. The southpaw lowered his ERA to 4.18 with a 1.19 WHIP and 123:43 K:BB through 163.2 innings over 29 starts this season. He's lined up to make his next start on the road versus the White Sox in what would be a highly favorable matchup.

• Athletics' JP Sears: Cruises to 11th win

  Sears (11-9) earned the win in Friday's 9-2 victory over Texas, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out four. The Oakland southpaw picked up his fifth win of the second half with this 97-pitch performance while earning his 11th quality start of the season. The only blemish on Sears' evening was a 406-foot solo homer allowed to Nathaniel Lowe in the second inning. The 28-year-old has been a solid contributor since the All-Star break, pitching to a 3.53 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 41:8 K:BB across 51 innings. Sears is scheduled to make his next start at home against the Mariners.

• Athletics' JP Sears: Crumbles against Brew Crew

  Sears (10-9) took the loss Friday, surrendering seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and a walk over 3.2 innings in an 11-3 loss to the Brewers. He struck out three. The southpaw saw his four-game quality start streak end with a resounding thud, as Rhys Hoskins and Joey Ortiz took him deep in a five-run second inning for Milwaukee. Sears has given up three runs or fewer in eight of his last 11 starts, but he's been hammered for at least seven runs in each of the other three -- volatility that has left him with a 4.50 ERA in 62 innings over that stretch despite a 1.18 WHIP and 58:10 K:BB. Sears will try to shake it off in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Cincinnati.
