Vientos is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres. Vientos has been one of the Mets' top hitters since the All-Star break, but he's cooled down a bit over the past couple weeks. Over his last 10 games, Vientos has gone just 5-for-33 (.152 average) with 11 strikeouts, so manager Carlos Mendoza will give the slugger the night off to get a mental reset. Starling Marte will replace Vientos as the Mets' designated hitter.

With Brett Baty occupying third base and Juan Soto filling the designated-hitter spot, Vientos will exit the lineup for the first time since Aug. 16. While starting the previous 19 games, Vientos slashed .310/.390/.761 with nine home runs, 24 RBI and 16 runs.

Vientos went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Phillies. It was Vientos' seventh game of the year with at least three RBI, and he also swatted his 13th homer of the season. The 25-year-old slugger's .723 OPS in 2025 is disappointing after he posted an .838 OPS in the 2024 regular season, though he's now riding a 10-game hitting streak. During that span, Vientos is batting .395 with six big flies, four doubles and 17 RBI over his last 38 at-bats.

Vientos went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 4-3 loss to Atlanta. Vientos followed up Saturday's two-homer game with a two-run blast in the second inning to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. The 25-year-old is in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak that's produced five home runs, two doubles and 11 RBI. For the year, he's slashing .238/.284/.412 with 12 long balls, 43 RBI and 31 runs scored across 349 plate appearances.
