The Angels designated Wagaman for assignment Tuesday. Wagaman slashed .250/.270/.403 with 10 RBI across the first 74 plate appearances of his MLB career in 2024, but the Angels decided his 40-man spot would be better used on Jack Dashwood, who had been eligible for the Rule 5 Draft. However, Wagaman turned in an .808 OPS over 121 minor-league games, so another team may be willing to claim him off waivers.

Wagaman went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 9-7 loss to the Astros. The 27-year-old is having a nice finish to the season in his first look at big-league pitching. Over the last seven games, Wagaman's batting .355 (11-for-31) with four doubles, two homers, five runs and seven RBI, and he's at least put himself in position to compete for a regular spot on the 26-man roster next spring.

Wagaman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 8-4 loss to the White Sox. Wagaman has picked up steady playing time since joining the Angels on Sept. 10. He's started five straight games at third base in the absence of Brandon Drury (hamstring), including four times versus right-handed pitchers. Wagaman has hit .200 (4-for-20), though all four of his hits have gone for extra bases (one homer, three doubles).
