The Phillies signed Zuniga to a minor-league contract on Dec. 13. Zuniga has battled injuries the last two seasons and posted a 5.03 ERA and 16:8 K:BB across 19.2 frames during his time in the majors. The 26-year-old is likely to start the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The Angels released Zuniga on Thursday. Zuniga cleared waivers after being booted from the 40-man roster and has now been cut loose. The 26-year-old is a hard thrower but has just a 16:8 K:BB in 19.2 innings in the majors and a 6.51 ERA at the Triple-A level.

The Angels designated Zuniga for assignment Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Travis d'Arnaud, who was signed to a two-year deal Tuesday. Zuniga, 26, posted a 5.09 ERA and 12:8 K:BB over 17.2 innings this season while notching a pair of saves.

Zuniga struck out the only batter he faced to earn a save against the Astros on Sunday. Zuniga came into a 9-8 game with two outs and two runners on base after Jose Quijada struggled to close out the game. Zuniga struck out Jeremy Pena on five pitches to end the threat. It was Zuniga's second save of the year and first since April 3. He owns a 12:8 K:BB and a 4.30 ERA through 14.2 MLB innings this season.

The Angels recalled Zuniga from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday. The right-hander has had a couple short stints up with the Halos this season, and he'll rejoin the big club Tuesday after spending the past two-plus months at Triple-A. Zuniga has allowed five earned runs in seven frames in the majors this year and has a 5.19 ERA over 26 innings with Salt Lake.
