  • Harris underwent left thumb surgery Tuesday, Jason Burke of SI.com reports. It's not clear exactly when Harris hurt his thumb, nor is it known the specific type of procedure he had. Harris is expected to be ready to go for the beginning of spring training, and assuming that happens he'll enter camp with a chance to win a starting job in the Athletics' infield. The 27-year-old slashed .274/.349/.342 with zero home runs over 84 plate appearances during his time with the big club in 2025.

  • Harris is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Pittsburgh. After starting three straight games at third base earlier this week, Harris has now been held out of the lineup in back-to-back contests. Darell Hernaiz will play the hot corner and Zack Gelof will handle second base in Friday's series opener. Harris and Gelof could continue to form a quasi-platoon down the stretch, though it will be difficult to know ahead of time which of the two of them is going to start since they both bat from the right side of the plate.

  • Harris will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. Harris will be included in the starting nine for the third contest in a row after going 5-for-7 with a double over his previous two games. The Athletics appear set to give Harris another look as their everyday third baseman, allowing Darell Hernaiz to shift over to second base in place of the slumping Zack Gelof, who will hit the bench for the third game in a row after striking out at a 36.4 percent clip since the beginning of September.

  • Harris is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals. Harris had been seeing fairly steady playing time at third base following his call-up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 15, but he appears to have faded into a reserve role in the wake of fellow infielder Zack Gelof getting a promotion last Monday. With Gelof starting at second base in all seven of the Athletics' games since his call-up, Darell Hernaiz has shifted over to third base on a more frequent basis.

  • Harris isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rangers. Harris will miss a second consecutive start since going 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored during Wednesday's game against Detroit. Darell Hernaiz will get the nod at third base instead and bat eighth.
