  • The White Sox announced Sunday that Thorpe will undergo season-ending surgery Saturday in San Francisco to remove a bone spur in his right elbow, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. On the shelf since Aug. 2 with what the White Sox had labeled as a right flexor strain, Thorpe appeared to be gearing up for a late-season return after he began a throwing program in mid-August. Thorpe never advanced beyond playing catch before the bone spur was detected in his elbow, and while the issue isn't a significant one, he'll opt to treat the injury with surgery rather than attempting to pitch through it. Thorpe is expected to be fully cleared in advance of spring training, when he'll look to solidify a spot in the White Sox's Opening Day rotation. The 23-year-old righty went 3-3 with a 5.48 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 25:21 K:BB in 44.1 innings over his first nine big-league starts before landing on the injured list.

  • White Sox's Drew Thorpe: Routed by Royals
    By RotoWire

Thorpe (3-3) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up six runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings as the White Sox were downed 10-3 by the Royals. He failed to strike out a batter. The rookie right-hander got tagged for at least one run in each of the first three innings, with a two-run shot by Freddy Fermin in the second being the biggest blow. Thorpe reeled off five straight quality starts at one point, but over his last two outings he's been crushed for 14 runs in only 5.2 innings, sending his ERA soaring from 3.03 to 5.48. He'll try to turn things around in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Oakland.

  • Thorpe (3-2) took the loss Friday, surrendering eight runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks in only two-thirds of an inning as the White Sox were routed 10-0 by the Mariners. He struck out one. The rookie right-hander's eighth career start was an absolute disaster, as Seattle batted around in the first inning and launched back-to-back-to-back homers off Thorpe to chase him from the game. The brutal performance sent his ERA soaring from 3.03 to 4.81, and it snapped his streak of five straight quality starts. Thorpe will try to shake it off and get back on track in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Royals.

  • Thorpe didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against Minnesota in the second game of a doubleheader, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk through six innings. He struck out one. Thorpe was cruising Wednesday, holding the Twins to just one hit through five scoreless innings. However, the rookie right-hander would give up back-to-back homers to Brooks Lee and Carlos Correa in the sixth, allowing Minnesota to tie the game, 2-2. Still, it was another solid outing from Thorpe -- he's now delivered four straight quality starts, allowing just five runs over 24.1 innings in that span. Overall, Thorpe is 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 19:15 K:BB through his first six starts (32.2 innings). He's currently slated for a road matchup with the Royals in his next outing following the All-Star break.

  • Thorpe (3-1) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over 6.1 innings in a 3-2 victory over the Marlins. He struck out five. In his longest outing since getting called up to the majors, Thorpe tossed 51 of 90 pitches for strikes as he delivered his third straight quality start and third straight win. The rookie right-hander hasn't exactly faced the toughest competition over his win streak, however, as he beat Miami, Detroit and Colorado away from Coors Field. Thorpe will take a 3.71 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 18:14 K:BB through 26.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Pirates.
