  • The White Sox placed Thorpe (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Thursday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Travis Jankowski, whose contract was selected in a corresponding move. Thorpe will miss all of the 2025 season while he recovers from Tommy John surgery.

  • Thorpe (elbow) is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery in the near future, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Thorpe was pulled from his appearance in a minor-league game Thursday due to elbow soreness -- one of multiple setbacks he's had since undergoing surgery in September to remove a bone spur. He's now set to go under the knife again, though this time around he'll be forced to miss the entire 2025 season and likely at least the early part of the 2026 campaign.

  • White Sox manager Will Venable said that Thorpe will undergo imaging after leaving his appearance in a minor-league game Thursday due to right elbow discomfort, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports. Thorpe has encountered multiple setbacks since he had surgery last September to remove a bone spur from the elbow. More will be known once the right-hander's test results are in, but Thorpe could be looking at an extended absence.

  • Thorpe (elbow) will begin throwing live batting practice Tuesday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Thorpe has been throwing bullpen sessions since mid-February, and he has now officially been cleared to face live hitters. The plan is for him to throw several rounds of live BP before getting into a routine of throwing every five days. Assuming all goes well, he'll then begin a rehab assignment with one of the White Sox's minor-league affiliates.

  • White Sox manager Will Venable said Wednesday that Thorpe (elbow) "continues to progress," Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Thorpe has not yet been cleared to throw breaking balls during his bullpen sessions, however, and will need to show he can do that before facing hitters and pitching in a Cactus League game. The right-hander had surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow last September and experienced a pair of setbacks after that during the offseason. Thorpe is not expected to be ready for Opening Day.
