• Brewers' Logan Henderson: Could slide into Milwaukee rotation

  Henderson is a "leading contender" to make starts for the Brewers in April following the injury to Tobias Myers (oblique), Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Henderson was cut from major-league camp last week, but he will be back to make a start Monday against the Padres and it appears he might be ahead of Tyler Alexander in the rotation pecking order. The 23-year-old Henderson has spun 5.2 scoreless frames with an 8:1 K:BB during Cactus League play. Myers could be back before the end of April and Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) might be ready around then, too, so Henderson's stay in the rotation -- if he is indeed part of it -- could be brief.

  Henderson (oblique) was reinstated from High-A Wisconsin's 7-day injured list Friday and gave up one earned run on one hit and two walks while striking out three over 2.2 innings. Henderson's fastball sat around the 93-to-96 mile-per-hour range in his season debut for Wisconsin, and he mixed in a devastating changeup and a quality low-80s slider. He was a fringe prospect when he was sitting in the upper-80s and scraping 92 mph, but since adding a couple ticks to his fastball, Henderson could be poised to shoot up prospect rankings in 2024.

  Henderson (oblique) will open the year on the injured list with High-A Wisconsin, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports. Henderson, a righty, exited a March 17 Spring Breakout game with left oblique discomfort. He displayed increased velocity this spring prior to the injury, but we will have to wait a few weeks before seeing if he can hold that mid-90s fastball velocity deep into starts. Last year, Henderson had a 2.75 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 106:26 K:BB in 78.2 innings as a command specialist with low-90s fastball and a plus changeup at Single-A.

  Henderson left Sunday's Spring Breakout game versus Kansas City due to left oblique discomfort, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Henderson began his outing by giving up a solo home run to Royals prospect Trevor Werner. Henderson then faced a second batter but was taken out of the game when the trainer went out to the mound after he threw a pitch.

• Brewers' Logan Henderson: Held back to manage innings

  Henderson is being held back in extended spring training in an effort to manage his workload this season, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports. Henderson was limited to 13.2 innings in the lower minors late last season after undergoing elbow surgery in spring training, so he wasn't going to be able to pitch a full season this year anyway. He is currently pitching in extended spring training and will reportedly join a rotation at Single-A or High-A later this spring.
