  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Optioned to FCL
    By RotoWire

The Orioles optioned Povich to the Florida Complex League on Saturday. Povich made his final start of the season Thursday and will finish his second MLB season with a 5.21 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 112.1 innings spanning 22 appearances. He'll now head to the Orioles' spring training facility to finish up his regular-season duties, and the team will bring up Carson Ragsdale to provide extra bullpen depth.

  • Povich (3-8) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Yankees, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out five. While Povich did manage to hurl at least five innings for a fourth consecutive start, the four walks were his most since his April 18 outing against the Reds. The southpaw did strike out the side in the fourth frame as well, but he remains without a quality start since Aug. 10 against the Athletics. Povich has an underwhelming 5.06 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 114:41 K:BB over 106.2 innings this year, and he's next set to take the ball versus a Rays team with a strong .799 OPS against left-handed pitching since the beginning of September.

  • Orioles' Cade Povich: Solid in no-decision
    By RotoWire

Povich did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Pirates, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out six. After giving up a two-out run in the first inning, Povich managed to hold Pittsburgh to just one additional tally over his final 4.2 frames, which came on an Alexander Canario homer in the third. It's been an up-and-down year overall for Povich, though he's posted a respectable 4.43 ERA in his last eight appearances (40.2 innings) while striking out 45 in that span. Povich is tentatively in line to face the White Sox on the road his next time out.

  • Povich did not factor in the decision against Houston on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 10 batters over five relief innings. Baltimore opted to deploy righty Rico Garcia as an opener before turning to the lefty Povich to begin the second frame. It was just the second time Povich has worked as a bulk reliever this season, and he handled the role fairly well, notching a season-high 10 strikeouts and tallying an impressive 18 whiffs despite giving up three runs. Povich handled a typical starter's workload with 91 pitches (60 strikes), so it seems likely that he'll remain synched up with the rest of the rotation regardless of whether he returns to a traditional starting role or is used behind an opener again. He's lined up for a rematch against the Astros his next time out.

  • Povich is set to pitch in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Rico Garcia in Saturday's game against the Astros in Houston, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Garcia is unlikely to work more than an inning or two before giving way to Povich, who is slated to make his second relief appearance of the season. After being reinstated from the injured list Aug. 4, Povich pitched well in his first two turns through the Baltimore rotation, logging a 3.86 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB in 11.2 innings.
