Gipson-Long (neck) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is working out in Toledo as part of reserve squad with the Triple-A season over, per MLB.com. Gipson-Long has been out since Sept. 11 due to neck stiffness. It's possible he returns before the regular season ends, though the Tigers now have just four games remaining. If Gipson-Long does make it back this week, he'll likely slot into a bullpen role with limited fantasy value. The 27-year-old righty could reemerge as a rotation option in 2026, depending on what Detroit does over the offseason.

The Tigers placed Gipson-Long on the 15-day injured list Friday against Miami due to neck stiffness. Gipson-Long gave up seven runs in 2.1 innings in a start Thursday, and he'll now head to the injured list. Gipson-Long will be eligible for reinstatement Sept. 27, one day before the Tigers' final regular-season contest. Detroit activated Jose Urquidy (elbow) from the injured list in a corresponding move, but it's unclear who'll take Gipson-Long's spot in the rotation.

Gipson-Long allowed seven runs on seven hits across 2.1 innings of relief in Thursday's 9-3 loss to the Yankees. He struck out three. Tyler Holton took the loss as the opener, allowing two runs in his inning of work, but Gipson-Long let the game get out of hand as the bulk reliever. He's allowed 13 runs across 6.1 innings in his last two appearances, and he's sitting with an ugly 7.18 ERA overall. The righty may continue to work in a bulk role or start some games while Reese Olson (shoulder) is out, but he's hard to trust in fantasy given his current form. Gipson-Long is penciled in to start Thursday's game against the Guardians, though Detroit may opt to deploy an opener once again in that contest.

The Tigers recalled Gipson-Long from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Gipson-Long will start Tuesday's game at home against the Mets, and manager A.J. Hinch said the right-hander will get either another start or bulk relief outing next week versus the Yankees. The righty hasn't reached the five-inning mark in an appearance since late June, so he won't pitch terribly deep into Tuesday's game.

Gipson-Long will be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to start Tuesday's game against the Mets in Detroit, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Gipson-Long holds a 4.32 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB in 25 innings covering two starts and four relief appearances for the Tigers this season. He hasn't reached the five-inning mark in an appearance since late June, so the right-hander could be in line for a relatively abbreviated outing Tuesday. Gipson-Long seems likely to be shifted to long relief after Tuesday's spot start, if he isn't optioned back to Triple-A.
