The Mariners claimed Kitchen off waivers from the Marlins on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma. Seattle designated infielder Jason Vosler for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster for Kitchen, a 27-year-old lefty reliever. Kitchen was thrust into a spot start after Edward Cabrera (migraine) was scratched Friday. The Phillies jumped on Kitchen early, plating three runs in the first before scoring four more in the second. It was the rookie's first career MLB start and he saw his ERA jump from 9.00 to 14.14 through seven innings. Kitchen shouldn't be expected to stick around in the rotation.

Kitchen was up briefly with the Rockies recently but didn't make an appearance. The left-handed reliever holds a 3.00 ERA and 1.27 WHIP through 33 innings at Triple-A Albuquerque this season.

The Rockies selected Kitchen's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday. Across 23 games in Triple-A this season, Kitchen has a 3.00 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 33 innings. He will provide the Rockies with a southpaw option out of the bullpen. To make room for Kitchen, Colorado designated right-hander Geoff Hartlieb for assignment in a corresponding move.
