Groshans signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Tuesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Most of Groshans' time last season was spent in Double-A, where he slashed .237/.313/.318 across 320 plate appearances between the Yankees' and Athletics' affiliates. He could potentially receive a bump to Triple-A upon joining the Royals, though major-league at-bats are likely out of the question for the 25-year-old.

The Athletics acquired Groshans from the Yankees on Sunday in exchange for first baseman J.D. Davis and cash considerations. After beginning the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre, Groshans was moved in late April Double-A Somerset, with whom he was slashing .234/.302/.316 with no home runs or stolen bases across 121 plate appearances. The 23-year-old Groshans hasn't seen major-league action since 2022 and will now move on to the fourth organization of his career.

Groshans was designated for assignment by the Yankees on Wednesday. He'll exit the 40-man roster in favor of Jahmai Jones, who was scooped up via waivers. Groshans was a waiver claim himself just a couple weeks ago and now could be on the move again.

The Marlins designated Groshans for assignment Tuesday. Groshans will lose his spot on the 40-man roster following the acquisition of Jonah Bride from Oakland on Tuesday. After making his MLB debut in 2022, Groshans spent all of last season with Triple-A Jacksonville, where he slashed .244/.341/.331 with 61 RBI in 528 plate appearances. The 24-year-old will presumably return to Jacksonville to begin 2024.

Groshans is dealing with a sore shoulder, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Groshans made a pair of diving plays Friday and visited a doctor about his shoulder the next day. While that may not bode well, a specific diagnosis beyond "soreness" has yet to emerge. Groshans could win a bench spot this spring after appearing in 17 big-league games last season, though the recent addition of Yuli Gurriel could hurt his chances.
