  • Casas (knee) has been at Boston's training facility in Fort Myers since the end of the regular season, Lauren Campbell of MassLive.com reports. It's unclear the type of activity in which Casas has been engaged, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora continues to have faith in the young first baseman, who was limited to 29 games last season. "That's great for a young guy to know what he needs to do to compete," the manager said. "He's done that. Hopefully we can get him heathy." The shortened 2025 season was the second consecutive one for Casas, who was limited to 63 games in 2024 due to a fractured rib. Casas is not a lock to return as the starting first baseman, and the Red Sox are rumored to have interest in free agent first baseman Pete Alonso.

  • Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow on Monday would not commit to Casas (knee) being the team's starting first baseman next season, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Breslow also noted that while Casas is "doing really well" in his recovery from surgery in May to repair a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee, he could not guarantee the 25-year-old will be ready in time for Opening Day. If healthy, Casas is the heavy favorite to break camp as Boston's primary first baseman, but the Red Sox are keeping their options open at this early juncture of the offseason. Injuries have limited Casas to just 92 games over the last two seasons, and he slashed only .182/.277/.303 across 29 contests in 2025 before his knee injury.

  • Casas (knee) will be off crutches in two weeks and expects to be ready for Opening Day next season, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Casas spoke to reporters Tuesday for the first time since he underwent surgery a month ago to repair the ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee. He will spend most of the summer rehabbing at Boston's spring training complex in Florida.

  • The Red Sox transferred Casas (knee) to the 60-day injured list Saturday. Casas underwent surgery in early May to repair the ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee and will aim to return in 2026. The move corresponds with the Red Sox selecting Marcelo Mayer's contract from Triple-A Worcester while placing Alex Bregman (quad) on the 10-day injured list.

  • The Red Sox placed Casas on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a ruptured left patellar tendon. Although Casas is only on the 10-day IL for now, his diagnosis almost certainly rules him out for the remainder of the 2025 season. Abraham Toro was selected from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move to give Boston infield depth, though Romy Gonzalez will likely receive the bulk of the starts at first.
