The Mets released Davis on July 16. The 29-year-old outfielder saw time in the big leagues with the Giants from 2019 through 2021 and with the Red Sox in 2022, but he played exclusively in the minors during his first season in the Mets organization. Over 309 plate appearances at Triple-A Syracuse, Davis slashed .224/.343/.440 with 13 home runs and two stolen bases before getting cut loose shortly after the All-Star break. Davis will seek out another minor-league deal elsewhere or perhaps explore his options overseas now that he's a free agent.

Davis was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Mets on Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Davis performed admirably before being reassigned with a .273/.333/.500 slash over 24 plate appearances. The 28-year-old outfielder could see time in New York at some point this season, but he could be a candidate to shuffle between Triple-A Syracuse and the big leagues.

Davis agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mets on Friday with an invitation to spring training, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Davis will have a chance to win a backup role but will face an uphill battle. The outfielder spent 2022 in the Giants and Red Sox organizations, and was successful in a brief sample with a .333/.407/.375 slash line over 27 plate appearances for Boston after he was claimed off waivers from San Francisco last April.

Davis opted for free agency Thursday, per the MILB transaction log. Davis lost his spot on Boston's 40-man roster on Sept. 12, and he spent the rest of the season with Triple-A Worcester. Prior to being designated for assignment he hit .333/.407/.375 across only 27 plate appearances with Boston.

The Red Sox outrighted Davis to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports. He remains in the organization after going unclaimed off waivers upon being designated for assignment Monday. The 28-year-old outfielder saw action in 12 games with Boston earlier in the season but has otherwise spent the bulk of the campaign at Worcester, with whom he's slashed .198/.315/.318 with a 30.8 percent strikeout rate across 305 plate appearances.
