The Pirates placed Bae on waivers Tuesday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports. Bae spent nearly all of 2025 at Triple-A Indianapolis, where he slashed .292/.380/.424 with 21 RBI, 55 runs scored and 23 steals over 67 games. Any club interested in adding the 26-year-old to its 40-man roster will now have the opportunity to do so; otherwise, Bae will most likely report to Indianapolis to begin the 2026 campaign.

The Pirates recalled Bae from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday. He'll start in left field and bat ninth in the Pirates' series finale versus the Brewers. Pittsburgh optioned Ryan Kreidler to Triple-A to make room on the active roster for another utility type in Bae, who will be back with the Pirates for the first time since mid-May. While spending the majority of the season at Indianapolis, Bae has produced a .282/.377/.411 slash line with one home run and 23 stolen bases across 289 plate appearances.

The Pirates optioned Bae to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday. The move makes room on the 26-man roster for Nick Solak, whose contract was selected by the Pirates. Bae appeared in five games for Pittsburgh after being recalled May 9 and went 1-for-7 with two stolen bases and three runs scored over that span. He could return to the majors should the Pirates require outfield depth.

Bae suffered a hand injury during Sunday's spring game against the Tigers, but manager Derek Shelton downplayed the injury, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Bae jammed his hand while sliding into third base but doesn't appear to be facing a serious injury. The 25-year-old struggled in 29 big-league games last season with a .463 OPS and spent most of the campaign in the minors.
