The Orioles optioned Soto to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday. Soto was deemed expendable as the Orioles get a couple infielders back from the injured list in Jordan Westburg (hand) and Ramon Urias (ankle). He's put up an .862 OPS in 12 games during his time with Baltimore in 2024.

Soto is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants. Soto had started at second base in each of the previous three games, but he'll give way to Jackson Holliday on Wednesday. Holliday's ongoing struggles at the plate have opened the door for Soto to pick up playing time, with the latter going 3-for-8 with a double and walk over his three starts.

The Orioles recalled Soto from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Soto will provide some depth while the Orioles are without three key infielders (Jordan Westburg, Jorge Mateo and Ryan Mountcastle) due to injuries. It's the third stint with Baltimore this season for Soto, who did not see any action the first two times around.
