The Yankees released Gonzalez on Sunday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. The left-hander has been with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since being DFA'd by the Yankees in June, but he's now been let go during the closing stretch of the campaign. Gonzalez made 27 appearances for New York this year and had a 3.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 11:13 K:BB across 23.1 innings.

While he likely won't see many more save chances fall his way, Gonzalez landing ninth-inning work Monday likely serves as a vote of confidence from Yankees manager Aaron Boone.
