Pages adopted a new batting stance earlier this week in which he stands taller in the box and holds his hand higher, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Pages began to see the changes pay dividends in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game versus the Mets, as he contributed an opposite-field double while also hitting two hard lineouts. The 26-year-old Pages is competing with Ivan Herrera for playing time at catcher and is likely to enter the season as 1B to Herrera's 1A behind the dish.

Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said Wednesday that Pages and Ivan Herrera will split catching duties next season, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Willson Contreras will be a first baseman and designated hitter moving forward, clearing a path to playing time at catcher. Pages was the preferred option over Herrera down the stretch of the 2024 season while Contreras was hurt, mostly because he's viewed as a much better defender. The 26-year-old Pages slashed .238/.281/.376 with seven homers over 68 contests this past season.

Pages isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Saturday's game against Cleveland. Pages will get a chance to regroup Saturday after going 0-for-9 with five strikeouts across his last three games. Ivan Herrera will catch for Miles Mikolas and bat fifth.

Pages went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Mariners. Pages came through in the eighth inning, launching a Logan Gilbert slider over the left-field fence for the only scoring play of the game. Pages has gone 4-for-14 (.286) over four games in September, but three of those hits have been homers. The catcher is up to six long balls, 22 RBI, 17 runs scored, one stolen base and a .245/.287/.396 slash line through 172 plate appearances this season.
