Winn underwent surgery following the conclusion of the season to have a cyst removed from his hand, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. It's not clear which hand was operated on, but it was a minor procedure which is not expected to affect his offseason workouts. Winn slashed .267/.314/.416 with 15 homers and 11 stolen bases over 150 regular-season games in his first full major-league season.

Winn is not in Sunday's lineup against the Giants. Thomas Saggese will get the start at shortstop in Winn's place, batting seventh. Winn wrapped up the regular season riding a seven-game hitting streak, batting .313 (10-for-32) during that stretch with seven extra-base hits (five doubles, a triple and a homer).

Winn went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and a two-run double in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Rockies. Winn's first multi-hit effort since Sept. 13 ended up generating over half of the Cardinals' runs in the game. The shortstop has three homers, three doubles and six RBI over his last 11 contests. For the season, he's at a .266/.313/.411 slash line, 15 homers, 55 RBI, 78 runs scored, 29 doubles and 11 stolen bases over 146 contests.

Winn went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Pirates. Winn has gone 8-for-34 (.235) with two homers (both solo shots) and a stolen base over his last eight games. He's picked up extra rest in September after playing nearly everyday for most of the second half. The shortstop is at a .271/.318/.411 slash line with 14 homers, 11 steals, 51 RBI and 75 runs scored through 141 contests this season.

Winn is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against Toronto, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Thomas Saggese will start at shortstop and bat seventh against Blue Jays right-hander Yariel Rodriguez. Winn has slashed .160/.192/.280 with one home run and three RBI over 52 plate appearances in September.
