Instead, Dane Dunning will be added to the Rangers' six-man rotation Tuesday in New York, likely leaving Foltynewicz to settle for low-leverage mop-up work out of the bullpen over the final two weeks of the season. Even after missing about a month of action while he was on the COVID-19 IL, Foltynewicz has still allowed the third-most home runs (34) of any pitcher in 2021, trailing only teammate Jordan Lyles (37) and Nationals lefty Patrick Corbin (36).

The Texas Rangers placed Mike Foltynewicz on the COVID-19 injured list Monday, Chris Halicke of SI.com reports.Foltynewicz was one of three Rangers players to land on the COVID-19 IL on Monday and the fourth to join the list in less than a week after utility man Charlie Culberson was deactivated Friday. The Rangers haven't revealed whether Foltynewicz has tested positive for the coronavirus or if he's merely been placed on the IL due to reasons related to contac tracing, but regardless, he won't join Texas for its upcoming three-game road trip in Cleveland. Foltynewicz had been on track to start Wednesday, but Spencer Howard will be pushed up a day in the pitching schedule to replace the right-hander.
