Rays' Yandy Diaz: Lands on injured list

Diaz was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left foot contusion, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

Diaz was forced to exit Monday's game against the Red Sox after fouling a ball off his foot. He'll now miss at least 10 days, but X-rays confirmed that he was able to avoid a fracture. Matt Duffy (hamstring) was activated off the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move and should spend a fair amount of time at third base in Diaz's absence, with Mike Brosseau and Joey Wendle also in the mix.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Cranks 19th homer

Gurriel went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Monday's 11-1 win over Oakland.

Gurriel took Homer Bailey deep for a two-run shot as part of a seven-run third inning, where he also registered an RBI single. The 35-year-old infielder is riding an 11-game hitting streak and has seen his OPS swell from .726 to .847 since the start of July. He's racked up a ridiculous 11 homers and 26 RBI in just 17 games this month.

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Exits with foot injury

Diaz left Monday's game against the Red Sox after fouling a ball off his left foot, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diaz immediately went down after fouling a ball off his own foot, and after being looked at by the team trainer, he hobbled off the field. Nate Lowe entered the contest with an 0-2 count and finished the at-bat. Diaz will be considered day-to-day until the severity of his injury is uncovered. He was headed for X-rays late Monday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Twins' C.J. Cron: Sidelined with thumb injury

Cron was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with right thumb inflammation.

Cron spent 10 days on the injured list earlier in the month due to the same injury. The first baseman appeared in five games after returning -- going 4-for-19 with a home run in those contests -- but apparently still didn't feel right, prompting him to receive a cortisone shot and head back to the IL, according to Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com. The move is retroactive to July 21, making Cron eligible to return July 31, should he prove ready. Cody Stashak was summoned to the majors to take Cron's roster spot.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rays' Nate Lowe: Sits against southpaw

Lowe is not starting against lefty Eduardo Rodriguez and the Red Sox on Monday.

Lowe has hit .289 with five homers in 13 games since returning to the big leagues. He's started against just three of the seven lefties the Rays have faced over that time period. Travis d'Arnaud gets the nod at first base in his absence.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Swinging hot bat in July

Olson, who went 1-for-3 with two walks in a loss to the Twins on Sunday, now has a 16-game hitting streak.

Due to the fact just three of those games have included multi-hit efforts, Olson's average has only risen a relatively modest 12 points to .261 over that stretch. However, the 25-year-old has slugged four home runs and six extra-base hits overall during the streak. Additionally, his current .261/.345/.550 line includes one career-best figure (batting average), while the two other components qualify as the second highest of his big-league tenure.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Out of Sunday's lineup

Calhoun is not in Sunday's lineup against the Mariners, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

He is in the midst of a 1-for-14 funk at the plate over his last five games. Brian Goodwin will start in right field and hit seventh.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

    Twins' C.J. Cron: Sits Sunday

Cron is not in Sunday's lineup against the A's.

He is 4-for-19 with one home run in five games since returning from a thumb injury. Ehire Adrianza will start at first base and hit eighth.

  • Rangers' Asdrubal Cabrera: Out of Sunday's lineup

Cabrera is not in Sunday's lineup against the Astros.

He is hitting .250 with one home run in 24 at-bats since the All-Star break. Logan Forsythe will start at third base and hit seventh.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Playing through pain Sunday

Voit (jaw) is starting at first base and hitting seventh against the Rockies.

He was removed from Saturday's game after getting hit by a pitch near his jaw, but will not miss further time due to the injury after getting cleared of a concussion. Voit is 6-for-27 (.222) with a home run and 11 strikeouts in eight games this month.
