Reds first baseman Joey Votto was not in the team's starting lineup Monday against the Nationals.

The club was expected to meet following Sunday's game to discuss a plan of action for Votto. While they haven't announced anything official, he was not part of the starting lineup for Monday's game. Votto is considered day-to-day with a quad injury. He's missed the past three games due to the issue. 

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman had five three-hit games in the first month of the season. He notched his second three-hit performance of May and his eighth of the season during Sunday's6-5 win over the Cardinals.

Freeman took Jaime Garcia deep for a solo home run in the opening frame and singled two runs in the sixth inning. He also added a single in the ninth and was plunked in his first at-bat after his home run in the opening frame. He finished 3 for 3 with two runs scored an three RBI. He is hitting .314 with eight homers and 27 RBI in 159 at-bats.

Reds manager Bryan Price said before Sunday's game against the Phillies the team is still deciding about the status of first baseman Joey Votto, who could be placed on the disabled list with a left quadriceps strain.

"I think we'll inevitably have to make a decision on what we're capable of doing and exactly how much time we feel, organizationally, Joey will need to be ready to help us again," Price said, per MLB.com. "That time hasn't come yet.

"He's getting the soreness out. He's getting better. It really is a day-to-day situation, but we'll get to that day where we say we either need that extra bench player or we don't. I really want a strong foundation for Joey to return feeling healthy and confident that he can play to his level instead of trying to manage a player at 50-60 percent ability. It's not fair to him and it's not fair to the team."

As expected, Reds first baseman Joey Votto was held out of the starting lineup Sunday against the Phillies due to a left quadriceps strain. Manager Bryan Price said Saturday the team would wait until the end of the Phillies series to make a decision about Votto's status.

Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt clubbed two home runs Saturday against the Dodgers.

Goldschmidt got in on the scoring in the second inning, hitting a run-scoring double. He walked and doubled in his next two plate appearances before stepping to the plate in the seventh inning. With two men on, Goldschmidt worked an eight-pitch at-bat against Chris Withrow. On the final pitch, Goldschmidt clubbed an 89 mph fastball out to left. Goldschmidt was able to add another one the following inning against Drew Butera. 

Goldschmidt finished 4 for 5, with five runs and six RBI.

The Reds will wait until their series with the Phillies ends before they make a decision on Joey Votto, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. 

Manager Bryan Price said he's hopeful Votto can return to action soon. The team initially feared Votto was dealing with a knee issue, but were relieved to find it was only his quad. Votto did not travel to Philadelphia with the club, and will likely miss Sunday's game. It seems like there's a chance he could join the club in Washington Monday, but the organization will wait until Sunday to make that decision.

Votto is dealing with a quad injury, and the club hasn't decided whether he'll require a stint on the disabled list. He did not travel to Philadelphia with the team Friday. Team officials were slated to meet following Friday's game in order to determine Votto's status. An update on his condition is expected to come soon.

Reds first baseman Joey Votto has avoided a serious injury, as an MRI taken Friday reveals no structural damage to his left knee.

Votto was diagnosed with a left quad strain, and the Cincinnati Enquirer reports he will not require a trip to the disabled list at this point. He is out of the lineup for Friday's game, though the Enquirer reports a trip to the disabled list is still possible. Front office, training staff and coaches will meet to discuss Votto's rehab timeline following Friday's game. 

Reds first baseman Joey Votto is likely headed to the disabled list with a left knee injury, according to FoxSports.com senior baseball writer Ken Rosenthal. It's the same knee that required surgery in 2012.

The report added that Votto did not make the trip with the team to Philadelphia and that he's scheduled for an MRI.

Votto has taken a step back this year after a disappointing 2013 in which he eschewed an aggressive approach at the plate for greater patience and wound up with just 73 RBI. He has just six home runs and 12 RBI in 2014 and his average has fallen to an uncharacteristic .257. He scored 101 runs last season to just 19 so far this year.

Mets infielder Wilmer Flores said Tuesday he's available off the bench after missing Monday's game due to a stomach virus, per MLB.com. However, he was left out of the starting lineup after Mets manager Terry Collins chose to start Ruben Tejada.
