Reds' Ty France: Getting evening off

France is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

France will get a respite for the series finale after he went 4-for-17 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run while starting each of the last five games at either first base or designated hitter. Spencer Steer will get the nod at first base Wednesday, while Jeimer Candelario serves as the Reds' DH.

  • Pirates' Rowdy Tellez: Bowing out against southpaw

Tellez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

The lefty-hitting Tellez will exit the lineup while the Padres send southpaw Martin Perez to the bump Wednesday. Connor Joe will check in at first base for Tellez, who had started each of the last nine games while slashing .290/.313/.387 with two RBI and two runs.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Padres' Luis Arraez: Swipes bag in win

Arraez went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs and a stolen base in Tuesday's 3-0 victory against the Pirates.

Arraez was the only Padre to reach base three times in the victory, and he scored two of the team's three runs. Arraez also sweetened his fantasy line with a stolen base in the first inning. He's far from a speedster on the basepaths, but Arraez does have a career-high five thefts on the campaign.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Hitting off tee

Manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that Walker (oblique) is now asymptomatic and has begun hitting off a tee, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Walker had been limited to taking dry swings over the past several days while the team waited for the pain in his oblique to dissipate, but he'll now begin ramping up activities. It's still unclear how far away the 33-year-old is from a return to Arizona's lineup, but the acquisition of Josh Bell ahead of the trade deadline will allow the D-backs to approach Walker's rehab with less urgency.

  • Michael Busch 3B | CHC

Cubs' Michael Busch: Idle against lefty

Busch is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians.

The lefty-hitting Busch will take a seat Tuesday as southpaw Matthew Boyd takes the mound for Cleveland. Patrick Wisdom will bat fifth and play first base.

  • Tyler Black 2B | MIL

    Brewers' Tyler Black: Officially promoted

The Brewers recalled Black from Triple-A Nashville on Monday.

With outfielder Blake Perkins (calf) going on the 10-day injured list, Black was summoned from Triple-A to fill the open spot on the active roster. Over his previous two stints with Milwaukee this season, Black hit .235 with two doubles, one RBI, three stolen bases and two runs scored in 12 games. He'll likely serve in a utility role while he's up with the Brewers.

  • Reds' Christian Encarnacion-Strand: Hopes to be back for playoff run

Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) hopes to be ready to return during a potential playoff run for the Reds, Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Encarnacion-Strand underwent surgery a month ago to repair ligaments in his fractured right wrist and has yet to resume baseball activities. While the infielder is holding out hope that he could possibly impact a postseason run for the Reds, the likelihood is high that he will ultimately be held out until next season. Still, the fact that it's even a remote possibility indicates that Encarnacion-Strand should have a relatively normal offseason if all goes well.

Brewers' Tyler Black: Added to taxi squad

Black has been added to the Brewers' taxi squad and could be formally recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Black is with the club at American Family Field ahead of Monday's game against the Dodgers and could be activated if Brewers outfielder Blake Perkins (calf) requires a stint on the injured list. The rookie has gone 8-for-34 at the plate in 12 games with Milwaukee this season.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Padres' Luis Arraez: Collects three hits Sunday

Arraez went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs Sunday in a loss to Miami.

Arraez is playing through a torn ligament in his thumb, per Dennis Lin of The Athletic, but the injury doesn't seem to be affecting his hitting stroke. The 27-year-old has multiple hits in three of his past four contests and is batting .400 with four RBI during that stretch. The hot streak has pushed Arraez's season batting average up to .306, which ranks first in the National League.

  • Jake Bauers RF | MIL

Brewers' Jake Bauers: Out of lineup vs. lefty

Bauers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

With southpaw Nick Lodolo on the bump for Cincinnati, the lefty-hitting Bauers will stick on the bench for the second day in a row. Bauers' absence will free up a spot in the lineup for Gary Sanchez, who will serve as the Brewers' catcher while William Contreras gets a day off behind the plate and draws a start at designated hitter.
