  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: Optioned to Triple-A

Smith was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.

Smith has struggled mightily in a part-time role this season, hitting .186/.287/.256. Add in his numbers from a disappointing 2021 campaign and he now owns an 83 wRC+ over the last two seasons, a far cry from the 150 wRC+ he managed from 2019 to 2020 and nowhere close to a good enough mark for a defensively limited player like Smith. He'll try to get back on track with regular playing time in the minors, freeing up more at-bats for J.D. Davis, Luis Guillorme and Nick Plummer.

  • Pete Alonso 1B | BAL

Mets' Pete Alonso: Blasts 13th homer

Alonso went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's 13-5 win over the Nationals.

He capped off the laugher by taking Josh Rogers deep in the eighth inning. Alonso has 13 homers on the year, two back of Mookie Betts for the National League lead, and he's batting a career-best .286 through 50 games with 29 runs and an NL-leading 47 RBI.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Nationals' Josh Bell: Drives in three Monday

Bell went 3-for-4 with three RBI in Monday's 13-5 loss to the Mets.

He once again didn't have an extra-base hit, but Bell still found a way to be productive in the rout. He's gone 21 games without a homer, slashing a weak .237/.284/.250 during his power drought with only one double and eight RBI.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Keeps mashing Monday

Goldschmidt went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Monday's 6-3 win over the Padres.

Goldschmidt padded the Cardinals' lead with a seventh-inning homer, his fifth long ball in his last seven games. The first baseman is riding a 21-game hitting streak, going 38-for-86 (.442) in that span. He's surged to a .352/.418/.626 slash line with 11 homers, 42 RBI, 30 runs scored, three stolen bases and 16 doubles in 46 contests overall.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Hits two-run blast

Flores went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Monday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Phillies.

Flores made his only hit of the game count, tying the game at 2-2 with his sixth-inning blast off Phillies starter Kyle Gibson. It's been a solid run lately for Flores -- he's 6-for-21 (.286) in his last six games. The infielder has maintained a .258/.318/.419 slash line with five homers, 27 RBI, 24 runs scored and 10 doubles through 173 plate appearances this year. He should continue to see regular playing time at first base or designated hitter while Brandon Belt (knee) is sidelined.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Begins baseball activities

Wade (knee) has begun hitting, running and throwing, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Wade has only appeared in 10 games this season, a run which was sandwiched in between two trips to the injured list with knee issues. It's certainly a positive to see him resume a variety of baseball activities, but it's not clear when the Giants expect him to return to action.

  • P.J. Higgins 1B | CIN

Cubs' P.J. Higgins: Hits first MLB home run

Higgins went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Brewers.

Making the start behind the plate with Willson Contreras serving as the DH in the early game, Higgins popped his first MLB home run in the fourth inning. It was also the first RBI of the season for the 29-year-old. Higgins will return to the bench for the second game Monday, with Contreras taking over as the catcher.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Day off Monday

Walker isn't starting Monday's game against Atlanta.

Walker will get a breather after he went 1-for-12 with an RBI, a walk and three strikeouts over his last three games. Pavin Smith is shifting to first base while Jose Herrera enters the lineup behind the plate.

  • Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Goes yard Sunday

Tellez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-0 win over the Cardinals.

Tellez was in a bit of a slump, going 4-for-19 in his previous six games with just one extra-base hit, a double, in that span. He went deep off Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas in the sixth inning. Tellez has shown solid power with 10 homers, 11 doubles and a .513 slugging percentage in 45 contests. He's added 34 RBI and 20 runs scored while seeing regular playing time at first base against right-handed pitchers.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Loses hold of leadoff job

Hoskins will start at first base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Mets.

Following a recent 13-game stretch in which he turned in an unremarkable .316 on-base percentage while occupying the leadoff spot, Hoskins now finds himself hitting sixth for the second game in a row. Kyle Schwarber sits atop the lineup for the second time in as many days and now looks like manager Joe Girardi's new preferred option for the table-setting role.
