  • Mets' Wilmer Flores: Headed for further examination

Flores will travel back to New York for further tests after he exited Sunday's matchup against Milwaukee with back soreness, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.

We won't know the extent of Flores' injury until the results of his tests come back. If he needs a significant amount of time to recover, look for Jose Reyes or Luis Guillorme to get a shot at third base.

  • Mets' Wilmer Flores: Departs with back soreness

Flores left Sunday's game against the Brewers early with lower back soreness, James Wagner of The New York Times reports.

Flores was 0-for-2 at the plate before being lifted from the game prior to the bottom of the fourth inning. Consider him a day-to-day case moving forward. He was replaced by Luis Guillorme at third base.

  • Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Leading off Sunday

Cabrera (knee) is starting at second base and batting leadoff Sunday against the Brewers.

Cabrera won't miss any time after tweaking his knee in Saturday's blowout loss to the Brewers. The veteran infielder has tallied five hits through the first three games of the four-game series and is currently slashing .282/.307/.447 with two homers and 12 RBI during the month of May. He continues to be a pleasant fantasy surprise in the early going this season.

  • Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Tweaks knee, hopes to play Sunday

Cabrera tweaked his knee in Saturday's game against the Brewers but hopes to be in the lineup Sunday, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.

He was slow to get up after a play at second base during the blowout 17-6 loss to the Brewers, and was replaced by Luis Guillorme, who could get a start Sunday if Cabrera needs another day. Cabrera is hitting .333 over the last week and has a .314/.355/.519 slash line with seven home runs in 185 at-bats this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Paul Goldschmidt: Records two RBI in win Friday

Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI in Friday's win over Oakland.

Goldschmidt hit a two-run triple off starter Sean Manaea in the fourth and later slashed a double off reliever Ryan Dull in the ninth. Goldschmidt has had a miserable May, hitting just .123 with five RBI against 29 strikeouts. Goldschmidt has a career OPS of .919 but this year is sitting at a career-worst .714. It stands to reason that he'll turn it around eventually, but it's taking a lot longer than expected.

  • Mets' Wilmer Flores: Will get starting assignment this weekend

Flores got the start against right-hander Zach Davies on Thursday, hitting third and going 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI, and Mets manager Mickey Callaway said after the game that Flores would take over starting duties at third base until Todd Frazier (hamstring) returns, Mike Puma of The New York Post reports. "I want Flo in there every day for the offensive component," Callaway said after Thursday's game. "We obviously need to score some runs right now."

The 26-year-old hasn't exactly been raking this season, posting a .238/.319/.406 slash line through 116 plate appearances with three homers and 12 RBI, but that's still better than what Jose Reyes (.403 OPS) and Luis Guillorme (.500 OPS) have managed to produce. For his career, Flores has a .695 OPS against RHP compared to an .803 mark against LHP, but with regular at-bats and a prominent spot in the batting order, he could provide some short-term value even in shallower fantasy leagues until Frazier is healthy again.

  • Matt Beaty 1B | KC

Dodgers' Matt Beaty: Returns to health

Beaty (undisclosed) rejoined Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Alex Freedman of the Oklahoma City Dodgers reports.

Beaty is ready to come up to Triple-A after missing time with an undisclosed injury. The 25-year-old first baseman slashed .326/.378/.505 with 15 homers and 69 RBI in 116 games for Double-A Tulsa a season ago.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Situated on bench Thursday

Votto will get the day off Thursday against the Pirates.

Votto has started in seven straight games, batting .192 with two extra-base hits and one RBI. He'll cede to Brandon Dixon at first base, who is slated to bat seventh.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Pirates' Josh Bell: Heads to bench in series finale

Bell is out of the lineup Thursday against the Reds.

Bell played all 12 innings of Wednesday's 5-4 victory, so he'll get a well-deserved breather in the series finale. David Freese will handle first base with Bell on the bench and hit third Thursday.

  • Diamondbacks' Paul Goldschmidt: Knocks sixth homer Wednesday

Goldschmidt went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Wednesday's 9-2 loss to the Brewers.

Goldschmidt took Brent Suter deep in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1, marking his sixth homer of the season and his second in the last five games. While Wednesday's solo shot was encouraging, it was Goldschmidt's only hit during the Diamondbacks' three-game series in Milwaukee (nine at-bats), a ballpark where he typically mashes (1.288 OPS in 98 career plate appearances at Miller Park heading into Wednesday). He'll look to build off of Wednesday's effort as the Diamondbacks head to Oakland on Friday for a three-game series against the Athletics.
