Phillies' Tommy Joseph: Out of Friday's lineup

Joseph is out of the lineup Friday against the Nationals, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports.

Rhys Hoskins will start at first base and hit third with Joseph sitting out Friday night. Joseph, who's hit two home runs over the last seven games, will likely return to action Saturday when the Phillies take on Edwin Jackson and the Nationals.

  • Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Out of Friday's lineup

Cabrera (back) isn't in the lineup Friday against the Reds.

Cabrera had an MRI on Friday, but the results of the examination have yet to be revealed. Until further notice, consider Cabrera day-to-day. Matt Reynolds will start at the hot corner while Cabrera is withheld from the lineup Friday.

  • Justin Bour 1B | SF

Marlins' Justin Bour: Comes off disabled list

Bour (oblique) was activated from the DL on Friday.

Bour has been out since July 24, but is ready to return to action following his lengthy absence. Prior to getting hurt, Bour had been in the midst of a great season. Over 87 games he's hitting .289/.366/.548 with 21 home runs and 63 RBI. Now that he's back in full health, he should return to his regular spot at first base in the Marlins' lineup.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Reaches base four times Thursday

Rizzo went 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two RBI in Thursday's win over the Pirates.

Rizzo was locked in at the plate in this one as he snapped an 0-for-11 slump that stretched back the past three games. With a .280/.396/.532 slash line to go along with 31 home runs and 102 RBI, Rizzo is once again producing at an elite level this season.

Phillies' Tommy Joseph: Hits solo shot in loss to Nats

Joseph went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during Thursday's loss to Washington.

Joseph's power has dipped considerably during his sophomore campaign, but otherwise he's pretty much been as advertised with 21 homers, 66 RBI, 48 runs and a .239/.289/.433 slash line. There's still the upside for a 30-bomb season in the future, and it's encouraging to see him find a groove down the stretch with five homers through his past 14 games.

  • Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Set to undergo MRI

Cabrera (back) will undergo an MRI on Friday, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.

The Mets announced that Cabrera's early exit Thursday was the result of a tight hamstring, but Cabrera contradicted that, saying it's actually an issue with his lower back. He's confident that it's not a serious injury.

  • Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Leaves game with hamstring issue

Cabrera left Thursday's game with right hamstring tightness, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.

Cabrera went 2-for-4 before being lifted in the eighth inning. There has been nothing yet to suggest Cabrera is worse off than day-to-day. Gavin Cecchini entered the game at second base following Cabrera's exit, with Matt Reynolds shifting to third.

  • Mets' Wilmer Flores: Shut down for season

Flores will not play the rest of the season due to a broken nose, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Flores suffered a broken nose after fouling a ball off his face over the weekend, and while there was hope that he would be able to play before the season ends, Thursday's visit with a specialist confirmed otherwise. The 26-year-old utility infielder will end his season with 18 homers and a respectable .271/.307/.488 line in 110 games for the Mets. Jose Reyes, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Matt Reynolds are all expected to help fill in for Flores around the infield down the stretch.

  • Diamondbacks' Paul Goldschmidt: Could return Friday

Goldschmidt (elbow) believes he could return to the lineup Friday against the Padres, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Diamondbacks skipper Torey Lovullo indicated that Goldschmidt prodded him to play Wednesday against the Dodgers, but the All-Star ultimately sat out a fourth straight contest with inflammation in his right elbow. In spite of the MVP candidate's absence, the Diamondbacks have been able to extend their winning streak to 13 games to further solidify their playoff positioning, so there isn't any impetus to rush Goldschmidt back into action at less-than-full health. Goldschmidt will likely be evaluated at batting practice Friday morning before his status for the series opener with San Diego is determined.

  • Justin Bour 1B | SF

Marlins' Justin Bour: Friday return possible

Bour (oblique) is a candidate to rejoin the Marlins as early as Friday, MLB.com reports.

Bour has been on the DL since July 25 due to an oblique strain, but recently began a rehab assignment with High-A Jacksonville. He's since played three games for the Jumbo Shrimp, going a combined 3-for-9 at the plate. Bour even homered in the Double-A playoffs Sunday, and intends to be back in the lineup Thursday. Should he play a full nine innings without issue, a Friday activation is possible, and it should occur at some point in the four-game series in Atlanta regardless.
