Yankees' Luke Voit: Slated to undergo MRI

Voit will undergo an MRI on Sunday to determine the severity of a lingering foot issue, James Wagner of The New York Times reports.

Voit dealt with a foot injury over much of the 2020 season that didn't hinder his abilities much at the plate as he led the league with 22 home runs. His MRI could help to determine treatment options as the Yankees prepare for the offseason.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

    Athletics' Matt Olson: Hits homer

Olson went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and walk in Wednesday's win over the Astros in Game 3 of the ALDS.

Olson hit his homer in the fourth inning off Jose Urquidy. The 26-year-old crushed his second homer of the series as he helped in an effort to keep the season alive in Wednesday's comeback win. The left-handed hitter slashed .195/.310/.424 and smacked 14 homers while recording 42 RBI during the regular season.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Not starting Game 3

Diaz is out of the lineup Wednesday for Game 3 of the Rays' ALDS matchup with the Yankees, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

He'll sit out of the second straight contest, this time giving way to Yoshi Tsutsugo, who will serve as the team's designated hitter and will bat fifth. Since being activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of the postseason, Diaz has appeared in two games, going 0-for-6 with three walks and a run scored.

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Out of lineup

Diaz is not in the lineup for Game 2 of the ALDS against the Yankees, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Diaz led off in Game 1, going hitless with a walk. Austin Meadows (oblique) will serve as the leadoff man and designated hitter for Game 2.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Out up to six months after surgery

Hoskins will be sidelined for the next four-to-six months after undergoing surgery on his left (non-throwing) elbow Friday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Hoskins missed the last two weeks of the season due to a UCL injury, and the Phillies certainly missed him, as they won just one of their final eight contests to miss the playoffs by a single game. According to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports, Hoskins had a procedure called an internal brace repair of his ulna collateral ligament, which carries a recovery time between four-to-six months. If he's closer to the four-month end of his timeline, he could well be a full participant at the start of spring training. If he winds up closer to the six-month end, he'd be ready to go right around Opening Day and could wind up making at least a brief trip to the injured list.

  • Nate Lowe DH | CIN

Rays' Nate Lowe: Cast off ALDS roster

The Rays removed Lowe from their 28-man roster for their American League Division Series with the Yankees that begins Monday in San Diego, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Lowe still retains a spot in the Rays' 40-man player pool for the postseason, so he could be a candidate to return to the active roster for the ALCS, should Tampa Bay advance past the Yankees. During the Rays' wild-card series win over the Blue Jays, Lowe went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Tampa Bay's Game 1 victory before sitting out Game 2. He'll be replaced on the ALDS roster by Austin Meadows (oblique), who appears to be nearing a return to game action.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Homers in Game 1

Goldschmidt went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's victory in Game 1 of the Wild Card Round against the Padres.

Goldschmidt kicked off the scoring in the first inning, driving in the first two of the four runs the Cardinals would score in that frame. He now has seven career postseason homers in 18 games, a number he pairs with a .284/.338/.622 slash line.

  • Matt Beaty 1B | KC

Dodgers' Matt Beaty: Joins big club for wild-card round

The Dodgers added Beaty to their 28-man roster Wednesday in advance of their wild-card series with the Brewers, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Beaty, catcher Keibert Ruiz and outfielder Terrance Gore will join the Dodgers for the three-game series, taking roster spots that had previously been occupied by relievers Alex Wood and Dylan Floro and second baseman Gavin Lux. During the regular season, Beaty saw action in 21 games and slashed .220/.278/.360 over 54 plate appearances.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Blue Jays' Rowdy Tellez: Remains on bench

Tellez sits as expected for Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Rays on Wednesday.

Tellez was able to return from a knee strain faster than expected and make the Wild Card Series roster, though he's not recovered enough to start. He was able to appear off the bench in Game 1, however, grabbing a hit and scoring Toronto's lone run, so a pinch-hit appearance is certainly possible again in Game 2.

  • Nate Lowe DH | CIN

Rays' Nate Lowe: Sitting against lefty

Lowe is out of the lineup Wednesday for Game 2 of the Rays' wild-card series with the Blue Jays, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

After finishing the regular season as the Rays' primary option at first base, Lowe started at the position Tuesday in Game 1, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. With a southpaw (Hyun-Jin Ryu) on the mound for Toronto in Game 2, the lefty-hitting Lowe will cede his spot in the lineup to Mike Brosseau. Lowe won't necessarily be a lock to make regular starts against right-handed pitching during the postseason, however, as the Rays recently welcomed back another challenger for strong-side platoon duties at first base in Ji-Man Choi (hamstring).
