Angels' Reid Detmers: Will move back into rotation
Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian said Saturday that Reid Detmers (elbow) will move back into the rotation in 2026, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.Detmers pitched well in his first season as a full-time reliever in 2025, posting a 3.96 ERA and 80:25 K:BB over 63.2 innings. However, Minasian feels the southpaw has "earned" another shot to be a starting pitcher in 2026 and is "a different guy" than the one who held a 4.90 ERA over 75 starts from 2021-24. Detmers struck out 418 batters across 385.2 frames during the latter stretch, so he's displayed strong swing-and-miss stuff as a starter. The lefty ended this season on the 60-day injured list with an injured pitching elbow, but he's expected to recover with rest.

Angels' Reid Detmers: Won't need surgery
Reid Detmers said Tuesday that tests on his left elbow showed no structural damage so he does not need surgery, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.Detmers said he is planning a normal winter in terms of offseason work. As for his role next year, he added that he would prefer to start but will do whatever the teams asks of him. The southpaw pitched in 61 games in 2025 but made no starts after spending the first four seasons of his career in the majors as exclusively a starter while posting a 4.90 ERA.

The Los Angeles Angels transferred Reid Detmers (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Friday.Left elbow inflammation forced Detmers onto the injured list Thursday, and the Angels will officially keep him out for the rest of the season now that he's on the 60-day IL. He'll conclude his first season as a full-time reliever with a 3.96 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over 63.2 innings. Connor Brogdon was selected from Triple-A to take Detmers' 40-man roster spot and replace Andrew Chafin (triceps) in the major-league bullpen.

Reid Detmers probably won't be moving into the Los Angeles Angels' rotation despite the demotion of Jack Kochanowicz to the minors, per Aaron Coloma of SI.com.Kochanowicz and Detmers battled for the fifth starter role in spring training, with the former ultimately getting the role. However, Kochanowicz has struggled to a 6.03 ERA over 19 starts and was sent down to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. When asked ahead of that demotion whether Detmers could be an option to move from the bullpen into a starting role, interim manager Ray Montgomery stated, "I would hate to say no to anything, but I don't think that's going to happen." Detmers has thrived in a setup role -- though he has posted a mediocre 4.15 ERA on the campaign, that is largely due to a horrific three-outing stretch in late April and early May during which he allowed 12 runs over one-third of an inning. Since then, the lefty has emerged as one of the Angels' top high-leverage options, posting a 1.24 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 38:13 K:BB over 29 frames spanning 28 appearances while recording eight holds and two saves.
