• Angels' Reid Detmers: Will move back into rotation

  Angels general manager Perry Minasian said Saturday that Detmers (elbow) will move back into the rotation in 2026, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports. Detmers pitched well in his first season as a full-time reliever in 2025, posting a 3.96 ERA and 80:25 K:BB over 63.2 innings. However, Minasian feels the southpaw has "earned" another shot to be a starting pitcher in 2026 and is "a different guy" than the one who held a 4.90 ERA over 75 starts from 2021-24. Detmers struck out 418 batters across 385.2 frames during the latter stretch, so he's displayed strong swing-and-miss stuff as a starter. The lefty ended this season on the 60-day injured list with an injured pitching elbow, but he's expected to recover with rest.

• Angels' Reid Detmers: Won't return in 2025

  The Angels transferred Detmers (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Friday. Left elbow inflammation forced Detmers onto the injured list Thursday, and the Angels will officially keep him out for the rest of the season now that he's on the 60-day IL. He'll conclude his first season as a full-time reliever with a 3.96 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over 63.2 innings. Connor Brogdon was selected from Triple-A to take Detmers' 40-man roster spot and replace Andrew Chafin (triceps) in the major-league bullpen.

• Angels' Reid Detmers: Lands on IL

  The Angels placed Detmers on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left elbow inflammation. Detmers had to depart Wednesday's game against the Twins due to the injury after not liking how the ball was coming out of his hand. The injury may end the southpaw's campaign as he won't be eligible to return until the final series of the season. In a corresponding move, the Angels recalled Chase Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake.

• Angels' Reid Detmers: Charged with loss, blown save

  Detmers (3-3) took the loss and the blown save Friday against Detroit, allowing three runs on one hit and two walks in one-third of an inning. He struck out one. It was the fourth blown save of the season for Detmers, who has struggled quite a bit lately after going without an earned run allowed over 13 innings back in June. While the left-hander does have a strong 1.06 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB over his last 16 frames, he has a 5.63 ERA during that span since the beginning of July. Detmers' recent shortcomings could open the door for Andrew Chafin and/or Luis Garcia to handle more high-leverage work going forward.

• Angels' Reid Detmers: Earns second save

  Detmers earned the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the A's, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning. With Kenley Jansen unavailable after pitching back-to-back days, Detmers was tasked with protecting a one-run lead against the top of the A's batting order in the ninth. The left-hander was up to the task, retiring the side on just 10 pitches while striking out a pair. Detmers has impressed in a high-leverage role recently -- he's now held opponents scoreless in 11 straight innings, allowing just six hits while striking out 18 in that span. Detmers has two saves on the season while lowering his ERA to 5.22 with a 1.53 WHIP and 37:13 K:BB across 29.1 innings.
