  • Jose Fermin 2B | STL

Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Summoned from minors

The Cardinals recalled Fermin from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Fermin is taking the roster spot of the struggling Nolan Gorman, who has been optioned to Memphis. The 25-year-old Fermin will offer St. Louis a backup option at second base, third base and shortstop, and he could see some starts versus left-handed pitching.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Sent to Triple-A

The Cardinals optioned Gorman to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Gorman's strikeout rate on the season ballooned to 37.6 percent after he went 0-for-4 with three punchouts in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. Strikeouts are nothing new for Gorman, but this season, they haven't been accompanied by much production, with the 24-year-old's OPS cratering to .671 after an .805 mark in 2023. With Gorman out of the picture, Brendan Donovan should see most of his playing time at second base moving forward.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Out against left-hander

McNeil is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Orioles.

The Orioles have southpaw Cole Irvin on the hill, so the left-handed-hitting McNeil will begin Wednesday's afternoon game on the bench. Jose Iglesias will start at second base and bat seventh for the Mets.

  • Gavin Lux SS | TB

Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Homers again Tuesday

Lux went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.

Lux got the scoring started for the Dodgers in the fourth with a solo home run to center for his second home run in as many games. Lux has been one of the best hitters in baseball over the last month-plus. Since July 11, he's slashing .358/.423/.670 with eight homers, 24 RBI and 17 runs, and his 1.092 OPS leads the National League over that span. For the season, Lux is now slashing .254/.313/.400 with 10 homers, 45 RBI, 44 runs, four steals and a 29:85 BB:K in 387 plate appearances.

  • Nick Gonzales 2B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Gonzales: Starting rehab assignment

Gonzales (groin) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.

Gonzales was placed on the 10-day IL on July 28 and has been deemed ready to appear in games. The 25-year-old will likely require multiple games with Indianapolis before being cleared to rejoin the active roster. Once activated, Gonzales will likely compete with Isiah Kiner-Falefa for work at second base.

  • Luis Guillorme 3B | HOU

Diamondbacks' Luis Guillorme: Signing with Arizona

The Diamondbacks signed Guillorme to a one-year contract Tuesday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

Per Alvarez-Montes, Guillorme is already with his new team at loanDepot Park in Miami, so it appears he will be active for Tuesday's game versus the Marlins. The Diamondbacks will need to make roster moves in order to add him to their 26-man and 40-man rosters. Guillorme, who was released by the Angels over the weekend, has a paltry .218/.285/.290 slash line in 138 plate appearances between Atlanta and Los Angeles. However, he offers a steady glove and gives Arizona an option at second base while Ketel Marte (ankle) is out.

  • Jared Triolo 3B | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Set to regain regular playing time

Triolo went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk Monday against the Rangers.

Triolo had been relegated to a bench role since the acquisition and return of Isiah Kiner-Falefa, though he looks poised to take over at third base so long as Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) and Nick Gonzales (groin) are sidelined. Triolo is hitting just .201 for the season with a. 094 ISO, but he does have a home run in two of his last three games.

  • Gavin Lux SS | TB

Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Goes yard in win

Lux went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 3-0 win over the Mariners.

Lux has gone 10-for-26 (.385) with three homers, five RBI and three doubles over his last seven games. The second baseman's seventh-inning blast broke up a pitching duel between Seattle's Bryan Woo and Los Angeles' Gavin Stone. Lux is up to nine homers, 44 RBI, 43 runs scored, four stolen bases and a .254/.313/.393 slash line through 107 contests this season.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: One hit in return

Estrada (wrist) went 1-for-4 with a run scored in Monday's 5-3 win over the White Sox.

Estrada was part of the Giants' fifth-inning rally, scoring the team's first run on a Curt Casali single. This was Estrada's first game since July 25 after he missed time with a left wrist sprain. He should resume a role as the Giants' primary second baseman, as Casey Schmitt is hitting just .176 in August. Estrada has a poor .216/.249/.351 slash line with nine home runs, 43 RBI, 42 runs scored, one stolen base and 14 doubles over 88 contests this year.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Activated from 60-day IL

Edman (wrist) was activated from the 60-day injured list Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Edman is now officially geared up for his season and team debut. The 29-year-old has been sidelined for the entirety of the 2024 campaign while working his way back from wrist surgery and an ankle sprain. Edman was traded to the Dodgers on July 29 and he has produced a .294 average with a home run, four RBI, five runs scored and a stolen base over 17 at-bats in six games with Triple-A Oklahoma while on a rehab assignment. Andy Pages was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move Monday, freeing up a spot for Edman in the outfield, where he's expected to see the majority of his playing time.
