  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Sits against southpaw

Donovan isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against Boston.

Donovan will head to the bench for a second consecutive matchup with southpaw James Paxton starting for the Red Sox on Friday. Juan Yepez is taking over in left field and batting fifth.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Takes seat Friday

Gorman isn't starting Friday against the Red Sox.

The Cardinals are facing left-hander James Paxton on Friday, so Gorman will retreat to the bench for a second consecutive game. Tommy Edman is starting at second base and leading off.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Steals another base

Estrada went 0-for-4 with one steal in Thursday's victory over Arizona.

Estrada snapped a seven-game hitting streak, but he managed to steal his 11th base of 2023. Estrada has been phenomenal this season with an .889 OPS. Plus, he is well on his way to topping his career high of 21 stolen bases.

  • Alan Trejo SS | COL

Rockies' Alan Trejo: Steal, RBI in win

Trejo went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a steal in Wednesday's win over Pittsburgh.

Trejo tied the game 3-3 in the fourth inning with an RBI single before notching his second stolen base, setting a career high. The 27-year-old has been swinging the bat well, going 8-for-19 with five RBI in his last six games. He's now slashing .264/.284/.333 with five doubles, six runs scored and nine RBI while primarily coming off the bench for Colorado.

  • Miguel Vargas 2B | CHW

Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Goes yard in second straight

Vargas went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 8-1 win over the Brewers.

He took Wade Miley deep in the sixth inning to help chase the veteran southpaw from the game. Vargas has had a slow start to 2023 due to the broken finger he suffered in spring training, but he appears to be getting comfortable at the plate -- the 23-year-old has homered in back-to-back games, with three of his four long balls on the year coming in the last eight contests.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Remains out of lineup

Hoerner (hamstring) remains out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Cardinals, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Hoerner has been doing baseball activities and is expected to avoid the injured list, but he'll miss a second straight game after suffering a mild left hamstring strain in Monday's series opener versus St. Louis. Nick Madrigal is starting at second base and batting leadoff Wednesday against the Cardinals and left-hander Jordan Montgomery.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Out of lineup Wednesday

Gorman is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs.

Gorman belted his eighth home run of the year in the Cardinals' defeat of the Cubs on Tuesday, but Tommy Edman will play second base and Willson Contreras will serve as the designated hitter in Wednesday's tilt versus the Cubs and lefty Justin Steele.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Sitting against lefty

Donovan is not in the lineup Wednesday versus the Cubs.

Donovan drew a walk and drove in a run Tuesday while also making a couple of excellent plays in left field, but he'll ride the pine Wednesday with left-hander Justin Steele on the mound for Chicago. Juan Yepez is in left and Tommy Edman is covering second base.

  • Ha-seong Kim 2B | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Takes seat Wednesday

Kim is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.

Kim will get a day of rest against Pablo Lopez and Minnesota for the second game of the series. Rougned Odor is starting at second base in Kim's place and will hit seventh.

  • David Villar 1B | SF

Giants' David Villar: On bench again

Villar is on the bench Wednesday versus the Nationals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Villar has now been out of the lineup for eight of the last 11 games, as he seems to have lost a hold on a regular role following a .570 OPS in his first 28 contests. With Brandon Crawford (calf) due back soon, Villar's roster spot might be in jeopardy.
