Hoerner (hamstring) is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Hoerner is considered day-to-day after leaving Monday's series opener versus St. Louis because of a mild left hamstring strain. He said he expects to avoid the IL. Christopher Morel is playing second base Tuesday and Nick Madrigal will get a turn at leadoff. Patrick Wisdom is on the bench.

Bae (ankle) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Bae will start at second base and bat ninth versus the Rockies and right-hander Connor Seabold after being limited by an ankle injury over the last handful of games. The 23-year-old has racked up 14 stolen bases on the year, though he's slashing just .239/.300/.326 across 101 plate appearances.

The Cardinals outrighted Motter to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Motter was recently removed from the Cardinals' 40-man roster for the second time this season but is electing to stick around in the organization as a utility man at the Triple-A level. The 33-year-old has hit .200 with a 36.4 percent strikeout rate over 22 plate appearances in the majors this season.

He was excellent between Double-A Harrisburg and Rochester in 2022, though, with an .871 OPS, 20 dingers and 15 steals. Alu can play all over the field and should operate in a super-utility role with the Nats. He'll be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

Vargas is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

After closing the Dodgers' weekend series in San Diego with an 0-for-8 showing at the dish over the final two games, Vargas will get a chance to rest Monday. Mookie Betts will move from the outfield to cover second base while Vargas hits the bench for the first time since April 27.

Rodolfo Castro will take over at second base while Chris Owings will draw the start at shortstop and bat eighth in the series opener.
