Brewers' Luis Urias: Unlikely for weekend rehab stint

Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns said Urias (quadriceps) is unlikely to begin a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend, though the 24-year-old could get "controlled at-bats" at the team's spring training facility in Arizona, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Stearns added that Urias remains in the ballpark of the initial recovery timeline since he was placed on the 10-day injured list April 7, though the Brewers haven't specifically provided a target date for his return. Urias has been able to perform baseball activities in Arizona, so if he's able to get some at-bats against live pitching within the next few days, he could be cleared to head out on a rehab assignment at some point next week. Jace Peterson and Mike Brosseau will continue to work in a platoon at third base for the big club while Urias is sidelined.

  • Diamondbacks' Yonny Hernandez: Makes first start

Hernandez started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over Houston.

Hernandez was recently called up from Triple-A Reno after the Diamondbacks optioned Drew Ellis, and Wednesday marked his first start. The moves are part of the team's ongoing carousel at third base. The organization is essentially biding its time until Josh Rojas (oblique) is healthy enough to man the hot corner, but until then, both Hernandez and Sergio Alcantara will get at-bats.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Plates two runs

Marte went 1-for-3 with two RBI and was hit by a pitch in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Astros.

Marte knocked in his first two runs of the season, but neither was the result of a base hit. He was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second inning before producing a bases-loaded, walkoff sacrifice fly in the 10th. The Diamondbacks are still struggling offensively -- Wednesday's six-hit output (all singles) were a season high -- but they are working the plate. Their nine walks Wednesday featured prominently in both scoring rallies, and they lead MLB with 33 free passes over six games.

  • Gavin Lux SS | TB

Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Slugs first homer

Lux went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and three strikeouts Wednesday against the Twins.

Lux tallied his first long ball of the season in the middle of a trio of consecutive home runs for the Dodgers in the eighth inning. His lack of contact in other plate appearances was a bit alarming, but he had not struck out across his first four starts of the campaign. Overall, Lux has shown strong form early on, tallying six hits across 20 total plate appearances while also recording two extra-base knocks.

  • Ha-seong Kim 2B | ATL

    Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Sitting Wednesday

Kim is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

Kim and CJ Abrams have had a near-even split of the shortstop work to begin the season, with the former picking up three starts at the position to the latter's four. With Kim off to a 2-for-10 start at the dish and Abrams having gone 1-for-11, neither player looks to have made much separation from the other in the job battle at this stage.

  • Gavin Lux SS | TB

Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Swinging hot bat

Lux went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in a 7-2 win over the Twins on Tuesday.

Lux drove in the Dodgers' first run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and singled in Will Smith for the final tally in the team's six-run eighth frame. Lux leads Los Angeles with four RBI on the campaign and is tied for the team lead with five hits. He is slashing .417/.467/.500 over 15 plate appearances.

  • Brice Turang 2B | MIL

Brewers' Brice Turang: Adding defensive versatility

Turang will play center field roughly once a week this season at Triple-A Nashville, Sounds play-by-play announcer Jeff Hem reports.

Sounds manager Rick Sweet was emphatic that the organization still views him as a shortstop, but the reality is Willy Adames isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so Turang will need to add some defensive versatility in order to increase his chances of getting looks in the majors. He is hitting .261/.346/.435 with zero home runs, zero steals, six strikeouts and three walks through six games.

  • Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL

Braves' Ozzie Albies: Pops first homer of season

Albies went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 16-4 rout of the Nationals.

His eighth-inning solo shot off utility man Dee Strange-Gordon may not be the most impressive feat of Albies' career, but it still counts as his first homer of 2022. The 25-year-old is still looking for his first stolen base but he's been giving himself plenty of opportunities to swipe it, posting a .370 OBP to go with a .476 SLG through six games.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Giants' Thairo Estrada: Drives in three

Estrada went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored in a 13-2 win against the Padres on Tuesday.

Estrada singled home two runs in the first inning and doubled home another in the second, scoring on both occasions. The 26-year-old utility man is slashing .278/.316/.500 through five games and appears to be the everyday second baseman while Tommy La Stella is injured and without a timetable to return.

  • Luis Urias 2B | ATH

Brewers' Luis Urias: Slow progress continues

Manager Craig Counsell said Tuesday that Urias (quadriceps) continues to progress slowly in his recovery and could receive at-bats in extended spring training games later this week, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Urias' recovery progress has been slow since he suffered the quadriceps injury in mid-March, but he's avoided setbacks to this point and could begin a rehab assignment as early as next week. The 24-year-old is expected to serve as Milwaukee's primary third baseman this season, with Jace Peterson and Mike Brosseau operating in a platoon in his absence.
