White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Homers in win

Moncada went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's 6-1 win over the Red Sox.

The Red Sox were done in by two of the players they traded to the White Sox to acquire Chris Sale. Starter Michael Kopech shut them down for three innings and Moncada's two-run blast in the first inning provided all the runs the White Sox needed. Moncada, who had struggled since the All-Star break and was dropped in the order, has been a better hitter over the last two weeks. He's reached base safely in 12 straight games and is hitting .282/.364/.538 with five extra-base hits over the last 11 games. That includes a 22 percent strikeout rate, an improvement on his season-long 34 percent.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Clubs 22nd homer

Chapman went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in the Athletics' 7-5 victory over the Mariners on Friday.

Chapman kept his breakout season chugging right along in this victory for Oakland, as he tagged Mariners starter Mike Leake for his 22nd home run of the season in the first inning. He's also stroked 33 doubles and six triples, giving him an elite .530 slugging percentage that puts him in the upper tier of offensive producers at third base this season, even if he still may not have the name recognition of some of the other stars at the position.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Indians' Josh Donaldson: Traded to Indians

Donaldson (calf) was traded from the Blue Jays to the Indians on Friday, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.

Toronto's end of the deal isn't yet known. The veteran third baseman has been on the shelf since the beginning of June with a calf injury, but he appeared in two minor-league rehab games before being traded. It's unclear where Donaldson will fit in with Cleveland if he returns to full health before the end of the season. The Indians could opt to play him at third base and shift Jose Ramirez to second base and Jason Kipnis to the outfield, or Cleveland could deploy the 32-year-old at DH due to his health concerns and slide Edwin Encarnacion to first base while moving Yonder Alonso to a reserve role. Either way, Donaldson will have to prove he's healthy before that becomes an issue. He hit .234/.333/.423 with five homers in 36 games in between shoulder and calf injuries earlier in the year.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Hoping to return Saturday

Segura (shin) will likely return to the lineup Saturday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Manager Scott Servais said Segura has a pretty deep bone bruise in his shin. The manager added that Segura could be available off the bench Friday, though he'll more likely get the whole night off before rejoining the starting nine Saturday. Dee Gordon is starting at shortstop in his place.

Mariners' Jean Segura: Remains out Friday

Segura (shin) is not in the lineup Friday against the A's, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Segura will stick on the bench for a second straight game as he continues to nurse a bruised shin he picked up during Wednesday's game. He should be considered day-to-day. Dee Gordon is starting at shortstop in his place.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: Late scratch Thursday

Segura was removed from the starting nine prior to Thursday's game against the Athletics, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Segura fouled a ball off his shin during Wednesday's contest against San Diego and was forced to exit the game. Although X-rays came back negative, he's clearly still nursing the injury, so the Mariners will hold him out as a precaution. He'll be considered day-to-day moving forward.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Mariners' Jean Segura: In lineup for series opener

Segura (shin) is starting at shortstop and hitting third Thursday against the A's, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Segura won't be forced to miss any additional action after exiting Wednesday's game with a bruised shin. The 28-year-old shortstop, who is slashing a solid .317/.348/.439 with nine homers and 20 stolen bases this season, will face right-hander Frankie Montas in Thursday's series opener.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson: Plans to play Thursday

Donaldson (calf) plans to play in Game 1 of High-A Dunedin's doubleheader Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Donaldson was expected to get Wednesday night off due to soreness in his calves and legs before the contest was rained out and rescheduled for Thursday. He's set to test his calf out in the first game of Thursday's twin bill, and how he fares could ultimately determine whether the Blue Jays deal him before the Aug. 31 waiver deadline.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Scores twice in loss

Chapman went 2-for-4 with two runs and a walk in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

After a rare 0-for-5 performance Tuesday, Chapman's bat heated right back up in Wednesday's loss, as he churned out his fourth multi-hit effort of the last five games. The 25-year-old's excellent .374 on-base percentage in August has helped lead to him scoring 21 runs, and he's been responsible for another 17 through his own offensive exploits.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Makes first rehab appearance

Devers (hamstring) went 1-for-3 with a double and played five innings at third base for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday.

Devers played his first rehab game since the Red Sox placed him on the disabled list Aug. 17 with a strained left hamstring. This is Devers' second DL stint due to a hamstring injury, so expect the Red Sox to make sure he's rehabbed fully. The 21-year-old third baseman could return to Boston's active roster this weekend.
