Athletics' Matt Chapman: Game-winning single in extras

Chapman went 2-for-5 with a game-winning RBI single in an extra-inning victory over the Giants on Sunday.

Chapman stepped into the batter's box with two outs in the 10th inning and men on first and second. He promptly laced a 2-2 pitch into shallow right center that brought home Marcus Semien with the winning run. It was an extension of a current hot streak for the infielder, who's churned out multi-hit efforts in three of the past four games and is hitting a solid .281 over 64 plate appearances in July.

  • Danny Valencia 3B | BAL

Orioles' Danny Valencia: Out of Monday's lineup

Valencia is not in the lineup against Boston on Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Valencia will retreat to the bench after going 1-for-4 with a double and three strikeouts during Sunday's loss to Toronto. In his place, Jace Peterson will man right field and bat ninth.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Rays' Matt Duffy: Returns from back soreness

Duffy (back) is back in the starting lineup Sunday against the Marlins.

Duffy was originally penciled in for the first game after the All-Star break, but was scratched due to back spasms and has now missed back-to-back contests. That streak will end Sunday, however, as he'll return to his regular role at third base and bat second in the order.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

    Athletics' Matt Chapman: Scores twice

Chapman went 3-for-5 with two runs scored Saturday against the Giants.

All three of Chapman's hits were singles, though he came around to score the game-winning run in the 11th inning. After a power surge to begin the season -- he had six home runs by the end of April -- Chapman has managed just four homers in his last 192 at-bats. He was sidelined for just over two weeks with a hand injury throughout the second half of June, and has 13 hits -- including five doubles -- in 52 July at-bats since returning to action.

  • Twins' Willians Astudillo: Returned to Triple-A

The Twins optioned Astudillo to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

To make room for the returning Logan Morrison (hip), Astudillo will head back to Rochester. The 26-year-old thrives on making contact but failed to make a big dent in his 19 major-league plate appearances (.263/.263/.368), though he'll return to build on his .290/.321/.489 Triple-A line which was complemented by seven homers and six stolen bases in 188 plate appearances. Astudillo's defensive versatility (catcher, second base, third base, outfield) will keep him on Minnesota's list of shuttle riders this season should another spot open up.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson: Still no return timetable

Donaldson (calf) is going through a running program at the Blue Jays' minor league complex with "good intensity" but still doesn't have a timetable for his return, MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm reports.

Given that Donaldson hasn't played since May 28 and already has had one setback in his attempt to return, look for him to have more than a token rehab assignment once he advances to that stage.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Rays' Matt Duffy: Remains out of Saturday's lineup

Duffy (back) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Marlins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Duffy was a late scratch Friday after experiencing back spasms on his way to the game, and it's unsurprising for the Rays to exercise some caution coming out of the All-Star break. It's unclear if 27-year-old will be available off the bench Saturday. Daniel Robertson will start at third base and bat second for Tampa Bay.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Reinstated from disabled list

Devers (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day DL on Saturday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

As expected, Devers will rejoin the active roster having missed just six games due to shoulder inflammation. He will likely slide right back into the starting lineup against the Tigers on Saturday.

  • Danny Valencia 3B | BAL

Orioles' Danny Valencia: Not in Saturday's lineup

Valencia is out of the lineup against Toronto on Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Valencia will receive a day off after going 1-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts during Friday's contest. In his place, Joey Rickard will man right field and bat eighth.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

    Rays' Matt Duffy: Considered day-to-day

Rays manager Kevin Cash labeled Duffy as day-to-day after the third baseman developed a recurrence of back spasms Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Initially included in the Rays' lineup for their second-half opener Friday against the Marlins, Duffy was scratched a couple hours before the contest after his back stiffened up while he was driving to Tropicana Field and then flared up again in the batting cage. Duffy will presumably attempt to go through a workout Saturday morning before the Rays determine his availability for the second game of the series. Adeiny Hechavarria entered the lineup in Duffy's stead Friday, finishing 2-for-5 with an RBI.
