    Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Doubles thrice

Arenado went 4-for-4 with three doubles, two runs scored and three RBI in a 6-2 win Saturday over Pittsburgh.

Arenado's three doubles came off three different pitchers and the third baseman now has four extra-base hits in the first two games of the season. The perennial All-Star has hit 30 doubles, 30 home runs and driven in 100 runs in each of the last six 162-game seasons and seems well on his way to that feat with his start to 2022. He has hit third or fourth in the lineup in every start since joining the Cardinals and there's no reason to think that will change anytime soon.

  • Mets' Eduardo Escobar: Gets breather Saturday

Escobar isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Washington.

While starting the first two games of the season, Escobar went 2-for-7 with two doubles, a run, three walks and three strikeouts. Luis Guillorme will start at the hot corner and bat eighth Saturday.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: Takes seat against southpaw

Peterson isn't starting Saturday's game against the Cubs, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Peterson started in Thursday's Opening Day matchup and went 0-for-1 with a walk and a steal. Mike Brosseau will start at the hot corner and bat eighth against left-hander Justin Steele.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Returns to lineup

Hayes (thumb/forearm) is starting Saturday's game against the Cardinals, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Hayes left Thursday's Opening Day matchup due to a cramp from his thumb down to his forearm, but the issue went away quickly. He'll start at the hot corner and bat third following Friday's scheduled off day.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Two great catches

Senzel made two great catches in center field in Friday's loss to the Braves and appears fully healthy to begin the season, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. "He's playing great," manager David Bell said. "He's anticipating, he's covering a ton of ground, making great plays. It's so nice to have Nick out on the field and he's impacting the game in all areas already."

After falling out of favor with the Reds to the point where he would have been optioned to Triple-A Louisville last season, but for a re-diagnosis that put him back on the IL, Senzel has appeared to regain the trust of the team to be the full-time center fielder. This is a big year for the 2016 second overall pick -- whether he can remain healthy for a full season remains in doubt, let alone whether his talent can be fully developed at the plate.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Could return ahead of schedule

Longoria (finger) could return within four weeks rather than six as previously expected, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

A four-week timetable would give him a shot at returning before the end of April. While the Giants could still wind up playing things cautiously with the veteran third baseman, it appears as though he's making great progress in his recovery from finger surgery. He'll get his stitches out Friday and has already begun grip exercises.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Provides bulk of offense in loss

Riley went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday in an Opening Day loss to the Reds.

Atlanta's offense had a hard time against Cincinnati's five pitchers Thursday, collectively registering only four hits. Riley was responsible for three of those, and his eighth-inning two-run homer accounted for two of the team's three runs. The third baseman is coming off a career-best 33-homer, 107-RBI campaign in 2021 and figures to be among fantasy's top third-base options again this season.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Blasts two-run home run

Arenado went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Thursday's 9-0 win over the Pirates.

Arenado's first hit of the season left the yard, accounting for the Cardinals' last two runs in a blowout win. The third baseman has clubbed no fewer than 34 homers in each full season since 2015, and he's already off to a strong start in the power department this year. Arenado can be penciled in as a near-everyday option once again in 2022.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Expected back Saturday

Hayes (thumb/forearm) expects to be in the lineup Saturday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Hayes exited Thursday's game against St. Louis in the bottom of the first inning. He explained to reporters after the game that he experienced a cramp from his thumb down to his forearm, though the sensation went away quickly. The Pirates could opt to be cautious with Hayes, though it doesn't appear as if the injury will affect him in the long term. The team also has a day off Friday, which will give Hayes some additional rest.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Injury considered minor

Hayes was removed from Thursday's game against the Cardinals due to cramping in his left thumb/forearm, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Although Hayes' first-inning exit on Opening Day led to some concern, he isn't experiencing any pain hours after his departure, and the issue is considered "very minor." The 25-year-old should be considered day-to-day, and he'll have Friday's scheduled off day to rest up before potentially missing any time. Prior to the season opener, Hayes agreed to the richest contract in franchise history when he signed a seven-year, $70 million extension.
