  • Padres' Manny Machado: Clocks 17th homer

Machado went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-3 loss to Miami.

Machado's solo shot in the fourth inning gave the Padres a short-lived 2-1 lead. The All-Star slugger has been terrific this month, going 24-for-71 (.338) with 13 extra-base hits and 18 RBI. On the season, he's slashing .275/.355/.497 with 17 long balls and 60 runs scored through 392 plate appearances.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Double shy of cycle Sunday

Arenado went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a triple and three runs scored in Sunday's 10-6 win over Cincinnati.

The third baseman extended his hitting streak to six games in a big way Sunday. He started with a single in the first, then added a triple in the fourth and a solo shot in the ninth, coming up just a double shy of a cycle. Arenado reached the 20-homer mark for the sixth time in his career, and he's slashing .261/.314/.504 with 61 RBI, 49 runs scored and a stolen base through 408 plate appearances.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Posts six-RBI game in Double-A

Baty went 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, a walk, six RBI and three runs for Double-A Binghamton against Eries on Saturday.

He'd been off to a quiet start for the Rumble Ponies, having hit just .139 with 15 strikeouts and zero RBI in 40 plate appearances across his first nine games after being promoted. This game, though, was a reminder of what Baty -- the No. 12 pick in the 2019 draft -- showed off in High-A earlier this season. The base on balls was particularly nice to see, as his walk rate has dipped at the higher level, while his strikeout rate is an unsavory 33.3 percent even after this performance. All in all, Baty's outlook hasn't changed much this year -- he still has monster power and works deep counts, but there's also plenty of swing-and-miss in his game. Though he'll probably never hit for impressive average or be a great defender, Baty's power will likely play in the big leagues, but he probably won't arrive until late 2022 or 2023.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

    Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Sitting Sunday

McMahon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

McMahon will take a seat for the first time in the second half after he went 8-for-24 with a pair of doubles, four walks, four runs and three RBI through the Rockies' first seven games out of the All-Star break. Joshua Fuentes will fill in for McMahon at third base.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Drives in three in four-hit game

Newman went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 10-2 win over the Giants.

Newman hit four singles in the win, marking his first game of the year with three RBI and four hits. He is batting .246 in the month of July, which is his best month so far this season. The 27-year-old is slashing .216/.254/.274, much worse than his 2019 slash line of .308/.353/.446. To make matters worse, he is less of a stolen base threat this year with only two steals.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Takes seat Sunday

Suarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

He'll sit for the first time in the second half after falling into a 3-for-27 funk at the plate over his last seven starts. The slump has dropped Suarez's season-long slash line to .172/.257/.361, with the lowly batting average placing him last in the majors among all qualified hitters. Mike Freeman will fill in for Suarez at the hot corner.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Socks two-run shot in rout

Riley went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Saturday's win over the Phillies.

Riley snapped a six-game homer drought with a two-run shot in the eighth inning when the game was already decided, but the noteworthy thing about the long ball is that he blasted that rocket off shortstop Ronald Torreyes, who pitched the eighth when the game was all but over. It was Riley's 16th long ball of the campaign and he has gone yard three times already this month.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Activated from IL

Anderson (shoulder) will be reinstated from the 60-day injured list before Saturday's game against the Padres, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The third baseman, having been sidelined since May 24 with a dislocated left shoulder, returns to the Marlins on his first day of eligibility. Before the injury, Anderson hit .250 with three home runs, 11 RBI and 12 walks in 36 games. The Marlins have yet to announce who will be removed from the 40-man roster to clear a space for Anderson.

  • Carter Kieboom 3B | CLE

Nationals' Carter Kieboom: Recalled from Triple-A

The Nationals recalled Kieboom from Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

The infielder has hit .236/.376/.385 with five home runs, 23 RBI and 26 walks in 44 minor-league games this season. Kieboom has appeared in only two games with the Nationals this season, both of which were in the first week of the season. Jordy Mercer (calf) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: On bench against left-hander

Peterson isn't in the lineup Saturday against the White Sox.

The Brewers are facing left-hander Carlos Rodon on Saturday, so Peterson will be excluded from the lineup for the third time in the last four games. Rowdy Tellez will start at first base and bat seventh.
