Sosa is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds due to pain in his left wrist, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Sosa suffered the injury while attempting a diving play Wednesday. He didn't play Thursday and won't start Friday, but he's merely considered day-to-day, so it's possible he returns to the lineup before too long. Paul DeJong will remain the starter at shortstop.

Farmer was placed on the paternity list Friday.

Players typically spend three days on paternity leave. That would keep Farmer out for the entirety of the weekend series in St. Louis but leave him ready to return Tuesday in Pittsburgh following Monday's off day. Jose Barrero was called up to take his place on the roster and will start at shortstop Friday.

Moustakas will sit against lefty Jon Lester and the Cardinals on Friday.

The Reds have stuck to their plan of platooning Moustakas and Eugenio Suarez at the hot corner, as Moustakas hasn't made a single start against a southpaw since returning from a heel injury in early August. Suarez starts at the position Friday, but Moustakas should return to the lineup against righty Miles Mikolas on Saturday.

McMahon isn't starting Thursday's game against the Phillies.

McMahon will get a day off after he went 3-for-10 with a home run, a double, two runs and a walk across the last three games. Colton Welker will start at the hot corner and bat sixth.

Sosa will sit Thursday against the Dodgers, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Sosa had been moving ahead of the struggling Paul DeJong on the depth chart, though it's now been DeJong at shortstop in two of the last three games. Sosa has hit .400/.435/.675 over his last 12 games, however, so it's hard to see why the Cardinals would move him back into a bench role.

Muncy went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored Wednesday in a loss to the Cardinals.

Muncy connected on a sixth-inning solo shot off Adam Wainwright for his 31st long ball of the season. The first baseman ranks fourth in the National League in that department and has now surpassed the 30-homer mark in three of the past four campaigns. However, Muncy is batting only .200 (23-for-115) since the start of August.

Escobar went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two runs and a walk in the win Wednesday versus the Phillies.

Escobar launched a solo shot off of reliever Connor Brogdon in the sixth inning. It was his 25th of the season but only his third since joining the Brewers on July 28. He has posted a .301 batting average and 11 extra-base hits over 27 games with Milwaukee.

Hayes went 1-for-3 with a single, a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-1 loss to the Tigers.

Hayes hit his way aboard in the first inning before swiping second off Matt Manning. The 24-year-old has now stolen two bags in as many nights off Detroit pitching. While he does have just six steals in 81 games this season, injuries have derailed what was supposed to be an explosive year for the Pirates' infielder. Hopefully 2022's version of Hayes will be closer to the one that pilfered 66 bags in 468 career minor-league games.

Duffy is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Duffy will take a seat after he started each of the past six games while going 8-for-24 with two home runs, a stolen base, six RBI and four runs. David Bote's recent return from the injured list could limit Duffy's opportunities at second base moving forward, but the 30-year-old's ability to play all four infield spots should allow him to hold down at least a semi-regular spot in the Chicago lineup.

Peterson remains on the bench for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Before sitting out Tuesday's 10-0 win, Peterson slashed .295/.392/.364 with four runs, four RBI and a stolen base over a stretch of 13 consecutive starts. Peterson's ability to play all over the infield and outfield while getting on base at a high clip should help his case for receiving semi-regular work, but he won't have a clear path to an everyday role now that Avisail Garcia, Eduardo Escobar and Kolten Wong are all back in action after recently missing time.
